ease up on the big fella
jeez
I still don't support having him in the starting lineup, but I have to show him some love..
his 3-pointer has been off for a while now..actually, probably ever since we signed Gooden..but he didn't put his head down and let his play sink, he's working on the rest of his game to make up for it..
he's playing tougher and a little more physical..he's making his 2-point shots and driving to the basket a lot more..his hook shot off the run has been looking good..
the old Bonner would have undoubtedly put his head down and allow Pop to have him riding on the end of the bench..good to see some improvement mentally..
Bon Dog is finding shots when his 3 is off. I don't think he should start...no...but I am going to give him props for focusing more on the rebounds lately, finding shots, and working harder on defense.
Yeah, it's good to see him find other ways to contribute.
The % on his shots inside the 3pt line is insane. And he was 50% from 3 tonight, so go Bonner!!!
I'm in favor of him continuing to start as long as his 3% from the last 2 games is always above 40%. Unless he gets torched by the opposing C.
Are you always this negative? Damn...
You should see what he says when Tim has an off game. T2T is a disgrace to Spurs fans everywhere.
like what Tim said during an interview, Mat spreads the opposing team's defense being an outside threat. That's his primary purpose in the lineup and that is to make things easier for Tim and the other guys to operate inside. In the defensive end though, he definitely still needs improvement. But I commend him for trying to improve his game.
He played decent against the Clippers. Yippee!
And Jacque Vaughn had more rebounds than him.
I'm a big fan of the on-court/off-court stat. I know that it is a meaningless stat for one game, or even over the course of 20 games, but over the course of a whole season, when players have logged many minutes in every situation and with every 5-man unit, it becomes one of the most telling stats about a players value to the team.
so after 70 or so games this year:
Name . . . total. . . Per 48 min
Bonner . . +301 . . . +8.3
Parker . . +264 . . . +5.8
Duncan . . +199 . . . +4.1
Mason. . . +196 . . . +4.2
Finley . . +142 . . . +3.3
Udoka. . . +134 . . . +7.5
Thomas . . +107 . . . +4.1
Ginobili . +102 . . . +4.4
hmm

If Matt Bonner is still the Spurs starting "Center" come playoff time, they may as well just fold. You aren't going to win with him as a starter.![]()
so the fact that the team outscores opponents at an 8+ PPG rate when he is on the court doesn't factor into your opinion?
^Yes, especially given the fact that he's on the court most of the time with Duncan and Parker, that stat is misleading.
hmm you don't seem to understand, his +/- is better than TD and Parker. So, since the minutes they play together will result in equal +/-, it's the minutes that he ISN'T playing with them where he is pulling ahead.
his +/- is actually better when paired with KT than Duncan
Our average point differential is <4PPG... so we're doubling our average victory margin when he's on the court.
his defense sucks!
once again the stats say otherwise, and very often, Bonner is guarding the better player while TD gets the easier assignment
gooden needs in over bonner. i dont mind bonner getting 10-15 minutes a night but thats it IMO
Yeah lets play the more ball hoggish Francisco Elson more.
Great idea.
those things are nice, but the main point of a basketball game is to outscore the opponent.
rebounds + low post game doesn't necessary = outscoring your opponent.
what can't be denied is that the Spurs play their best basketball as a team when he is in there
when Bonner is on the floor, the Spurs give up 91 points per 48 minutes, none of the Big 3 are better than that, Manu is worst with almost 96, KT and the also-much-hated Udoka are like 88 or something.
I just want him out of a Spurs uniform. We need somebody mentally tough. Sorry Bonner fans, it's just my opinion.
that's all right, ignoring facts and going on how you feel is the American condition. It's how Obama got elected and it's why we we will soon be a quasi-socialist nation![]()
