So what exactly caused this?
Well they turn on but none of the Ethernet ports work, both show no Ethernet connected even tho the wire is. Same wire work on my laptop and my brothers Xbox and my brothers pc.
When the lightning hit the router's transformer plug exploded open and I took apart the router and it smelled burned and the board was all black and burnt. So I guess the surge traveled threw the Ethernet wire and both my systems.
PS3 will connect threw wireless because I took it to my friends house to try it out and it work but I hate playing online wireless plus I don't have a damn wireless router no more and will not have one for awhile as I need to get house repairs done first.
So I took my 20gb Xbox to Best buy with my 2 year plan and just told them the Ethernet port was shot, didn't tell them why.
So they gave me a gift card for 374.23, So I bought a arcade system and a 120gb hard drive and I still have 24 and change left for my router fund. The new Xbox is damn quit compared to my last 2. I don't even know it's on unless I look to see the power light, with the other systems I knew they were on with my eyes closed because they were loud.
The PS3, I just did a warranty report online and it said it was covered. Reason being was when my PS3 broke in January they sent me a refurb system and a 90 day warranty so the system told me to enter the serial number and it said it was still covered and they will ship me a PS3 coffin this week.
My tv was also only 6 months old and it turns on and shows some of the component hook ups sometimes but will not show any HDMI, I called Sony and they are sending a repair man Friday. I just hope the tv is not that badly fried because then they will not cover it because of surge damage. Since it turns on and some stuff works, I'm hoping they will fix it. Don't have my hopes up on the tv tho.....see what happens.
My surround sound was also fried.....open it up and the main board was burnt and melted. My laptop was the only thing that really survived 100%
So what exactly caused this?
Maybe you should read the post.
I recommend unplugging your vital electronics in the future during lightning storms. Even good surge protectors can't save you from a direct hit -- it's just too much current.
You hate playing on wireless? Thats the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard. Ive been playing consoles on nothing but wireless since 2002 and have never looked back.
I did read it, what I meant was if he could be more specific.
(Read your link and it sounds like you got a direct hit, that really sucks)
I don't mind playing on WIFI, but downloading really sucks on my PS3 with the WIFI.
I suspect it's an issue with the PS3 WIFI, but I've never looked into it since my 360 is already hard wired so I have my PS3 setup the same way.
So the router that burned was a wireless router?
Yes my systems were wired and my laptop was wifi
So any updates for the other thread?
No it's not. I have my 360 2 feet from my router with a perfect 5 bars of signal strength... and I still have problems sometimes when I play with the wireless adapter. I don't know why, but yeah, my router will occasionally drop signal strength for a split second and it's frustrating as , missing a sniper shot because ones router lagged for a microsecond. So I keep it on a cable.
And my router's fine. Nothing wrong with it. It's just, barring the purchase of a 200 dollar gaming router, those are the breaks.
That's really bizarre. Do you have a Windows Vista computer in the house that's running wireless internet? This question is for both of you who have wifi problems.
Nope. I have the windows 7 beta running on an old desktop and it would connect wirelessly, but I barely ever turn it on. And it's not a big deal, I mean I could play on wireless just fine without more than a hiccup or two every hour or so, but I have noticed said hiccups and given that CoD's a game of microseconds sometimes, I take every advantage I can get, including plugging in an ethernet cord.
My buddy has a really hard time getting his wireless to connect at all sometimes. I don't know if it's his adapter or router, but he'll go through a whole routine of plugging/unplugging his adapter in order to get it to connect. He does have Vista computers on his network.
Just fixing stuff up slowly...we hurting for cash but today at work they called me into the office and there was the admin, store mgr, and some lady from HR. She said they were emailed what happen and that heb would like to help out and she gave me a check for 750.00......caught me way off gaurd...this will help us out alot
I ask because Vista's Zero Point Wireless Configuration Utility will do a search for new wifi connections every 45-90 seconds. This effect feels like a rubber-banding in gameplay. It plagued me for several weeks until I found a workaround. I don't know about 7 but it might have the same issue. In XP this was not enabled by default but for some reason they added it to Vista. It was SOOOO annoying and I died countless times on CoD4 and Counterstrike because of it.
why didn't you get a red elite?
That's nice to hear Slydragon. Hope things settle well for you.
along with you and your family sir....didnt you sell the vodoo statue or some awhile back...or did you hold on to it after all? Cant member what it looked like....
yea gave it away then my ps3 broke.......That never even cross my mind till now.![]()
