Liddell/Rua is a tough pick for me. To be less than tactful (but perfectly honest), Chuck is old and I'm not sure he has "it" anymore, but Shogun has looked like crap his past several outings.

I'd like to just straight out pick Kongo to win his fight, but some little warning voice is holding me back. That will take a bit more thought first.

I'll go with Chuck here only because Shogun has look unspeakably bad in almost all aspects of late. 44 year Mark Coleman dead tired, begging to be KO'd and Shogun got next to nothing done. He's only 27, you hate to count him out, but you have to go by what you see.. Chuck has lost a step, his reflexes are not what they were but as long as he is not one dimensional just looking to land that big right, he should win. He better mix it up though, or he is gonna get caught again..

    'Shogun' out to silence critics

Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua says his lacklustre performance in victory against veteran Mark Coleman in his last fight means he is training harder than ever for his forthcoming bout against Chuck Liddell.

    More StoriesHughes deserves HoF status
    Yahoo! Sports top 10 fighters
The pair meet in a mouth-watering joint top-of-the-bill light-heavyweight clash at UFC 97 on April 18 at the Bell Centre, Montreal, in a fight delayed from June 2008 because of injuries to both men.

Rua says he has renewed motivation after looking rusty in his third-round TKO over 44-year-old Coleman at UFC 93 in January, where fans and UFC management were less than impressed with his inability to finish an out-of-shape veteran who had run out of gas in the opening round.

The 27-year-old looked a shadow of the young star who tore through Pride fighting championship opposition in Japan, where he carved out a reputation as one of the most feared fighters in all of MMA, and the Brazilian has assured fans to expect a vintage performance in Canada.

"In my last fight, I wasn't very pleased with my performance because I know I could have showcased myself much better," Rua said.

"I know I could have been better prepared and so because of that I came here to Sao Paolo to emphasise the right training because I want to put on a much better fight for the UFC fans.

"This fight (against Liddell) is the fight of my life. I know Chuck is a great fighter, a tough fighter, likely the most famous MMA fighter in America still and someone who can bring my name up if I win, if I perform well.

"I am training as hard as I ever did in my life. People around me know how hard I am training and dedicating myself to this fight. And this is the only thing I can do because I know how much this fight means in the grand scheme of things: it means the world."

Liddell, 39, also needs to impress following a run of three defeats in his last four fights, UFC president Dana White going so far as to admit that anything less than a spectacular showing from his good friend will leave the organisation with little choice but to discard the man who for a five-year spell was one of the most dominant fighters in the sport.

Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson took away Liddell's light-heavyweight le at UFC 71 in May 2007, with the unfancied Keith Jardine adding a punishing split-decision loss four months later after taking advantage of Liddell's open stance with a series of thumping leg-kicks.

The Iceman bounced back by winning a decision against Wanderlei Silva in a wild and memorable brawl at UFC 79 in December 2007, but a stunning KO defeat to now heavyweight-champ Rashad Evans in September 2008 left many questioning his future.

Rua, however, is sure that Liddell remains a threat and says he has prepared accordingly.

"Chuck Liddell's right hand is a dangerous weapon," Rua went on. "He has a very good right uppercut and right overhand so we are really taking this into consideration, it is part of the training.

"We are training specifically for his style and I think this is the evolution of mixed martial arts: people are training for the strongest points of their opponents, and their weakest points as well.

"Although I think there is a lot of pressure involved in this fight I think everyone expects him to win - he is the favourite. People think I did not fight well in my last fight so people are expecting him to win.

"A lot of people are ruling me out. I think this is good; it gives me more motivation to train, to train hard and prepare, and I fell like I have nothing to lose."

Liddell has enlisted the help of 1976 Olympic boxing gold medallist Howard Davis as he seeks to sharpen up a stand-up game that saw him develop a feared reputation as a thunderous striker and KO specialist.

And far from retirement, Liddell is talking about plans to regain his light-heavyweight le.

"For me it is the road back to getting my le back and showing people that I can still do it, I guess," Liddell revealed. "He (Rua) is a guy I have wanted to fight for a long time and I now get to fight him - I'm excited about that.

"He hits hard and is good on the ground; he is a good all-round fighter. He has been able to win against a lot of people. Expect me to come out swinging. I'm going to come out swinging and not stop until the fight is over."

Light Heavyweight bout: Chuck Liddell vs. Mauricio Rua <please Jesus!

Reading some of the quotes from Shogun and his team, i may be wavering on my pick here and go with him after all. This is a very hard one to pick. Chuck is almost 40, obviously not what he was, Shogun is still young, GOD who wants to give up on a 27 year old?? But he's looked so shot lately.. The best thing for MMA i would say is for Shogun to win this and come back around to what he was in Pride, but that's a tall order..

Its such a hard fight to pick....

I do believe Chuck for the first time is taking a heavy interest in his career but it seems so late.

Chuck has always been a partier but i always thought the Consensus was in terms of his training, the turning point was his first loss to Randy.. He is probably more serious than ever but his skills have eroded to much..

    Leites - U kiddin me?

Chuck will destroy Rua in second. Rua;s pace will drop down and then Chuck will dictate the tempo. It's over.

Soszynski - you got to cheer for your guy

Kongo is on a mission - another statment victory by him. Hardonk will have tough time.
