The Spurs won their 50th game, their 10th straight 50-win season. That matches the second-longest streak for any franchise in NBA history (Lakers won in 12 straight from 1980-'91; Celtics in 10 straight from 1959-'68).

we take this team for granted some times
    So true.

People have been doom-and-gloom about this team all year, and I'm not saying they have looked great. But if at the beginning of the season someone would have said, Tony will miss several weeks, Manu will miss almost 1/2 the season and Tim will be gimpy, how many games will the Spurs win? Most of us wouldn't have guessed in the 50's.

technically, we should be tied for #1..the lockout season ed it up, but that team would have obviously won 50 games pretty easily..

shouldnt they be given 11 straight, i can see not giving the lockout season, which they won, but come on, you cant penalize them for that, technically, any season where there was 82 games, they won 50 11 straight times...to me that is wrong

San Antonio Spurs with Tim Duncan

    1997-98 56-26
    1998-99 37-13 ("lockout season" on pace to 60-22 !!!)
    1999-00 53-29
    2000-01 58-24
    2001-02 58-24
    2002-03 60-22
    2003-04 57-25
    2004-05 59-23
    2005-06 63-19
    2006-07 58-24
    2007-08 56-26
    2008-09 50-27 (5 games left)

Without the 1998–99 season lockout, it should be their 12th straight 50-win season !

Spurs hit 50-win mark for 10th straight season

Oklahoma City, OK (Sports Network) - Tim Duncan had game-highs of 25 points and 15 rebounds, as San Antonio reached the 50-win plateau for the 10th consecutive season with a 99-89 victory over Oklahoma City at Ford Center.

The Spurs (50-27) became just the third team in NBA history to record 50 or more wins in 10 straight seasons. Boston, which had two separate streaks, and the Los Angeles Lakers are the only other franchises to record such a streak.

Tony Parker added 21 points, 10 assists, and five steals for the Spurs, who finished a three-game road trip with a 2-1 mark. Drew Gooden ended with 20 points off the bench for the victors.

Roger Mason replaced guard Manu Ginobili in the starting lineup. It was learned on Monday that Ginobili will miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his right fibula. Mason finished with 13 points in the tilt.

The Spurs sit atop the Southwest Division standings, a half-game ahead of Houston. The Rockets beat Orlando on Tuesday. San Antonio is third in the West, 1 1/2 games behind idle Denver.

San Antonio has five games left on its regular season schedule.

Oklahoma City was paced by Kevin Durant, who had 24 points, seven boards, and six helpers. Jeff Green added 16 points for the Thunder, who finished a three- game homestand with an 0-3 record. Thabo Sefolosha tallied 13 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Russell Westbrook finished with 10 points in defeat.

The Spurs began the fourth quarter on a 12-6 spurt to extend their lead to 87-78. Duncan tallied six points during the flurry, including a layup to end the spurt with just under five minutes remaining.

The Thunder never got closer than five points the remainder of the way.

The Thunder held onto a 32-25 lead after one quarter of play.

Down 48-44 with 3:43 left in the second period, the Spurs ripped off seven straight points to take a 51-48 edge. Parker's pair of shots from the stripe and a layup culminated the flurry with 31 ticks left until halftime.

San Antonio, which went 11-of-15 from the line in the half, took a slim 51-50 margin into the locker room. Oklahoma City went 7-of-9 from the charity stripe.

Following a back-and-forth battle in the third frame, San Antonio headed into the final period with a 75-72 edge.

    Game Notes

The Spurs had seven blocked shots, compared to three for the Thunder...San Antonio and Oklahoma City split the season series, 2-2...The Spurs improved to 24-15 on the road.

Going back to Robinson's rookie season, that's 19 out of 20 years in the playoffs, and 18 years with at least 47 victories plus the 37-13 record in 98-99. Two decades near the top of your sport is quite remarkable.

This is amazing friends. We are so damn lucky. Our market is so small compare to LA and Boston. There are no words to describe this phenomenal accomplishment. Props to the best players in the NBA, the owners and the whole staff for making this possible.

I was wondering how many other teams had accomplished this feat - and it's great that we're in the top 3! I see no reason why the Spurs won't continue to win at least 50 games for the next several years - so we should have the record in 3 years!

How long will it take for another team to beat that record?

When it appears that 53 might be your low water mark over a 12 year stretch, you've done a whole, whole lot right.

It's a crying shame that there are so many Spurs "fans" who don't understand that.

The team's consistency has been really commendable. I've been a fan since 1989 and have only had to witness 1 year of the Spurs not making the playoffs, which I happily traded for the right to acquire Duncan. That is alot of great years and good times...
