The third-seeded Spurs match up with a familiar foe in the first round, getting No. 6 Dallas in a seven-game series beginning Saturday in San Antonio. These bitter rivals square off in the playoffs for the fourth time since 2001, with the Spurs holding a 2-1 lead in the three previous meetings.
"We're going down to the River Walk, a place we've been many times before," Mavericks guard Jason Terry said of San Antonio's famous downtown tourist attraction. "It's going to be an outstanding series, a big rival of ours and they're placing pretty good basketball. Tony Parker is not in the MVP talks, but he should be."
Terry isn't the only Maverick to notice the job Parker has down to keep the Spurs afloat in the absence of Manu Ginobili and with Tim Duncan hobbling. Coming back to win the Southwest Division wouldn't have been possible without Parker.
"I never take it for granted," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "It's his best year and he's carried us a lot with the injuries we've had. He's been a constant factor for us at both ends of the court. Thank heaven he's young. Let's hope he can handle it come playoffs."
The Parker-Jason Kidd matchup may be the centerpiece of the series. The two point guards are at the opposite ends of their careers, but both are playing their best basketball of the season at the right time.
SPURS 105, HORNETS 98 (OT): Michael Finley forced overtime with a 25-footer at the buzzer, as San Antonio staged an improbable rally to beat New Orleans at home to clinch the Southwest Division le and Western Conference's third seed.
Tim Duncan (20 points and 19 rebounds) dominated the extra session for San Antonio, which finished the regular season 54-28 and opens the playoffs at home for the 11th straight year.
Tony Parker led the Spurs with 29 points, with Finley added 17. Chris Paul and David west combined to score 60 for the Hornets, who slipped to seventh with the loss. New Orleans opens against Denver.

F Jason Terry! I am still mad about when he punched Finely in the nutts during game 6 of the West Finals in 2006. I was at that game to see that dirty Terry take that cheap shot.

Jason Terry apparently also provides representation to the Western Coast of the United States.

Of course he gives respect. He knows his role. Plus, he loves the riverwalk; he is a turtle.

Even though I don't care what he says atleast he is saying respectful things rather than trashing the Spurs or their players.
