SCOUTING REPORT: While the 19-year-old Macvan has the size to play in the NBA, his game may need a little more seasoning. Teams that desire potential over finished product might take a flyer at the young Serbian, who is projected to be selected in the second round if at all. In 41 games in Adriatic League and Eurocup play with KK Hemofarm Stada Vrsac, Macvan averaged only 11.0 points and 4.3 rebounds, but knocked down 52.6 percent of his shots and connected on one-third of his 3-point attempts. In the 2008 Under-20 European Championships, he performed better against players his own age, averaging 16.9 points and 6.6 rebounds over eight games. During the annual Nike Hoops Summit in April, he had 23 points, 14 assists and six rebounds to lead the World team over the United States’ high school all-stars for the first time since a Dirk Nowitzki(notes)-led squad won in 1998. At his current size, Macvan is a tweener. He’s a little undersized to play at center, but his bulk - some of which is considered baby fat - could make him a tad slow in matchups with power forwards. At his young age, Macvan still has time to grow and develop his physique for the next level. While he might take time to learn how to play in the NBA, Macvan could make a nice role player for a team looking for bench help.

Ok, I'm from Serbia, ex basketball player, now only basketball lover, so i'm gonna help by telling you more about the prospects i know. I was interested to see what place should Macvan get in the forthcoming draft, but i couldn't find his place on nbadraft.net, and by googling i ended up in here.. By the way, very nice forum folks.

Macvan is a player from Hemofarm Vrsac (btw, my favorite team is Partizan Belgrade), so i'm writing this very objectively. Picture and info about him are correct (couldn't say that about few other prospects). Things i don't like about Macvan: Doesn't block shots at all, lack of aggressiveness in the paint on the offensive and defensive end, not much athletic and doesn't use his strength enough. Thing i like about him: Patient hard worker, real professional, yet so young; he has above average soft touch for PF and uses it quite well, good strength for his age (but could improve), decent footwork on defense..
Lot of the people say around here he's not NBA type player, but i think he can manage more than fine.
When i saw him play for the first time i didn't notice anything special about him, and i still think he will never be a star or something, but surely he can develop in a solid NBA player (better than Luis Scola for example).
If the Spurs get him, believe me, they will be more than happy coz he's a type of player you enjoy coaching, and i think he can be a decent contributor even in a first year.
In the end, he definitely proved me wrong for now. I would like if he could sign a contract with Partizan first and not go to NBA or Europe, but rumors tell a different story.

1) Has he declared for this draft (he isn't 22 yet).
2) Rather than DeJuan Blair, think Kevin Love...
3) Given 2), If he's available at 49, DRAFT HIM! It's unlikely he will be anywhere near as good, but just consider this:

Getting a guy 1/3 that productive from 49 is just gravy. Yes, a Blair/Macvan Frontcourt would be ridiculously short, and might not fit together well. Still, if you can pick up potential starting level talent in the 2nd, DO IT.

fact is, Macvan is an unbelieveable talented player, but he is trapped in the body of a defensive tackle. if he could slim down to about 240, he could become a NBA player. if he was there at 49, why not pick him and wait what happens the next 3 years. he might be the best big man in Europe by then. or 300lbs.

That's pretty much exactly what they said about Kevin Love; look at his draftexpress history. I will note that he managed...quite well.

that's right. the difference might be, that Love always was an underrated athlete. Macvan isn't underrated in this department. he just isn't much of an athlete at all. (that's why Love was a #5 pick and Macvan will be a 2nd rounder)
but overall they are pretty similar. (except that Macvan won't be that good as a rebounder). Fab Oberto once managed to become the starter on a championship team, based almost exclusively on his smarts. Macvan has the same smarts, more skills and might be a compareable athlete, if he could slim down a bit.

Too fat and slow. He already slimmed down and is still fat. Oberto was more athletic than Macvan. Can't jump over a sheet of paper. Plus a disappointing season.

Berri overvalues rebounding with his metric. Love is one of the best rebounders in the NBA. Macvan would be a well bellow average rebounder.
