    http://www.westsidebikeside.com/humm...gun-in-my-car/

Friday morning at approximately 2am in downtown LA: A black Hummer, bearing no license plates, hits a cyclist, knocking him to the ground. The Hummer then flees the scene dragging a bike it ran over underneath it, only to be pulled over one block over by LAPD. After taking reports from witnesses, Officer Cho addresses the group of about twelve cyclists, saying:

If it had been me with my family in that car, I’d have done the same thing, and I carry a gun in my car.
he incident occured as a small group of about twelve riders turned right from Los Angeles St to 7th St. As the group turned, a Hummer which had been honking at the group hit and injured a rider, who spent the night in the ER for ankle injuries. His friends helped him to the curb, and the Hummer stopped. However, the motorist then tried to flee the scene, as cyclists tried to record the license plate number. Two cyclists quickly blocked its path as the passengers and cyclists yelled at each other.

Eventually the driver drove into the cyclists, who narrowly escaped severe injury by scattering. The Hummer ran over at least three bikes, destroying them, and smashing a cyclist in her thigh with a bike in the process. He then drove down one block, turned onto Main St., where he was pulled over by LAPD.

The occupants of the car fled on foot, and though LAPD caught the driver, several of the passengers escaped. Those passengers returned later to threaten the group of cyclists, saying that if they spoke with police, they would return “60 crips deep.”

After a large group of police officers interviewed the witnesses and the suspects they released the driver, who drove off without a ticket. Officer Cho, the officer in charge at the scene then approached the cyclists. He first told the group:

Get everyone together because I don’t want to say this twice. If anyone says anything I’m gonna walk away and I’m not going to talk to you guys. Based on the evidence right now it looks like the cyclist hit the car, not that the car hit the cyclist.

Cyclist then argued with him, pointing out that the driver of the Hummer was dislodging a bicycle from underneath his vehicle when the police pulled him over. Officer Cho then responded, saying “if it had been me with my family in that car, I’d have done the same thing, and I carry a gun in my car.”

    Stay tuned for follow up.

Haha what, he even fled from the cops on foot, and he gets away with nothing?

Boy, you better watch out for cyclists in LA. Sounds like they should have been a gang in the warriors movie.

This doesn't even make sense. So some gangbangers ran over a cyclist and the cop was too scared to do anything about it?

There are always a few A-Holes that give the rest of us a bad name but running them over is not the answer.

Yeah, running anyone over isn't right. I just think everything would work beautifully if bikes stayed on the sidewalk and cars stayed in the streets.

    Ummm...

Bikes should be on the ing street as close to the curb as possible going the direction of traffic. They should be no more than two wide and even then, they should be single file....

Sidewalks are for ing pedestrians. I hate having to deal with those ers when I'm out taking my dog for a walk.

I can't stand these Lance Armstrong-wannabees who take up the whole road. A grown man who wears spandex shorts and a neon colored shirt in public deserves to get hit by a hummer.

If you had ever lived in LA, nothing about LAPD would surprise you. I saw them start a large riot once when they tried to break up a party with the police helicopter.

lol cyclists imo gets too much protection and using the roads, if you wanna share the roads with vehicles start using it properly instead of swirling and on the roads and freelancing.

down here we want these tools to start paying bike registrations and if they wanna use the roads, it makes sense doesnt it, why have one set of rules for drivers who use and pay for the roads while bikers dont pay .....

seriously those clowns should ride on the footpath early in the morning when nobody uses it to go to work....

Bikes dont belong on roads that dont have a bike track on the shoulder (Ive only seen that in Arizona, btw).

But to address the article, the cyclists should have handed out some street justice on those ers in the Hummer.

It initially sounds really messed up, but there must be more to the story than we're reading. Twelve bikes in the road at 2AM? Maybe they did hit the Hummer. Or maybe they were blocking traffic and he was trying to get aroudn them. It's no excuse for hurting someone, but this probably isn't as clear-cut as it sounds.

It was probably a group of riders doing long distance biking. And they have no defense against a large car.

The statement of "60 crips deep" is enough of a threat that everyone in the SUV should be arrested. Indicating gang violence is nothing short of a threat on those biker's lives. Besides, it's 2 AM. You're telling me that Hummer had no room and had to him them? I realize it's LA, but I doubt the streets were that crowded. He could have just moved. It has no license plates as well, which is a violation.

Interesting that people are defending the Hummer here. I'm not sure if it's trolling or just people who hate exercise. What's it to you if they want to ride at 2 AM? They should be free to do that, last I checked.

If they want to be treated equally as road vehicles, they should have a license, registration, and insurance. Seriously.
