How much native american blood would qualify him? One person in the family tree? I think that if they are going to headhunt him, they should set the criterion in advance.
University Tries to Trace Indian Ancestry

DENVER - The future of a University of Colorado professor who likened some Sept. 11 victims to a notorious Nazi is now in the hands of nine colleagues who may be asked to decide whether he is American Indian, as he claims.
Ward Churchill could lose his job if a faculty committee concludes he lied about being an Indian to beef up his credentials as a scholar. University officials said earlier this week that the First Amendment bars them from firing Churchill for his essay on Sept. 11.
The ancestry question "has no precedence," Joe Rosse, a member of the faculty panel, said Friday. Asked where the panel might look for help, Rosse replied, "That's an excellent question."
The panel also is investigating allegations that Churchill, who has tenure, plagiarized others' work, misinterpreted evidence and fabricated details in his research. The probe is expected to take up to nine months.
Churchill has defended his scholarship, citing endorsements from other academics and numerous awards.
His attorney, David Lane, said Friday, "They are fairly concrete accusations and will be refuted with some concrete evidence."
The ethnicity issue, however, is far from concrete.
Churchill insisted again last week that he is Indian, saying, "That's my family's understanding of itself."
But a report by acting Chancellor Phil DiStefano said "there is serious doubt about his Indian iden y." It said Churchill claimed in writing to be an enrolled member of the Keetowah Band of the Cherokees, but the tribe's principal chief told the university that Churchill is an honorary associate member, not an enrolled member.
In an essay written shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Churchill called some World Trade Center victims "little Eichmanns," referring to Adolf Eichmann, a Nazi architect of the Holocaust. The essay drew scant attention until earlier this year, when it resurfaced after Churchill was invited to speak at Hamilton College in upstate New York.
