I noticed at the end of this article that Houston is making Yao a priority. I just wondered what a Duncan + Yao front court would do to a team...

probably wouldn't be worth the risk to sign yao if he opts out. especially when he's already 30 years old.

Would the Spurs have a snowball's chance in Hades to get Yao? And if so, at what costs?

Do we want Yao? He's great but injury prone isn't he?

    I like that.
Tim and Yao are the top 2 players on my list at the moment. I wish they could be on the same team.

A Tim Duncan and Yao Ming front court would be very good except their health is a big question mark. At least for Yao it is. His foot is always at risk because of all that weight. I wouldn't sign him to a long-term deal if I was a GM.

even if they both stayed healthy, they dont complement each other at all. if tim were still 25 they'd be sick together but in 2010 they'd just get in each others way on both ends of the court.

No way I'd take Yao. The Chinese government is running him like a rented mule. Dude is never going to get better from all those injuries since the Chicoms won't let him take time off to heal.

I think Yao should opt out of playing for the Chinese NT. No wonder he breaks down so often, he's got a lot of mileage on those feet. The Chinese authorities should show a little appreciation for what he's accomplished and just leave him be.

You think he got a choice. I shoulda remind u of the first ever Chinese Player to NBA, Wang Zhizhi. He played for Dallas. The mother country called him back to play for something like Asian Cup and didn't allow him to play NBA summer league and training camp. He couldn't fit in because of that and he thus refused to play for China no more. As a result, he got abandoned by his country and lost support.

    Some thoughts:

1.) Yao is property of the Chinese Government, so any team would have to negotiate with the Communists to gain permission for his services. I am really not sure how long this process takes, but the Rockets had a few months to do it, once they found out they had the number one pick.
2.) Salary is not a motivator, a large portion of his salary goes back to China.
3.) Yao is extremely loyal. He gets very emotional when people get traded or leave the team.
