good call
another? what was the first Epic fail by Nike?
dammit..Dan and Dave was reebok
anyways Nike's new commericals =![]()
The fact that there have been so many threads already started that not only talk about the commericals, but link back to their site, shows they have done their job.
I just searched and found one other.
My bad.
Why does everyone assume the commercials were made for them meeting in the Finals? The whole discussion for the last year has been who would you rather have Lebron or Kobe? Who is better, not whose team will win in the Finals.
Maybe but how relevant will the ads be during the Finals if both are not there. I can't say for sure, and no one else here can either, but IMO, they were made with the finals in mind and the buildup to said finals.
That was not the point. The point is, in marketing your goal is to make things memorable and create buzz that leads to effective sales and earnings. People talking about this so much (some directly in threads started about the subject, some chatter in other threads not directly about the commercials) has shown the effectiveness.
It is interesting.
It may not be directly about a Lebron/Kobe finals, but Nike would like them to be there. Lebron/Kobe have enough notoriety that Nike knows they will make their money back no matter what, but getting to the finals certainly boosts your campaign and gives you extended options.
Is is like any sponsor; they give you money now knowing full well you may not make it to the finals or win the championship, but it is a calculated gamble.
The League wants it to happen, and unless you are a Nuggets, or Magic fan, you probably want it to happen as well. I don't care what people say, you can hate on Kobe or Lebron- even both, you would watch a Kobe/Lebron Finals. People on here will be bored with a Nuggets/Magic Finals before it even starts. Kobe vs. Lebron is polarizing. Even if you hate them both, you are probably watching hoping they both fail. Nobody gives a about the Nuggets or Magic. That is why Notre Dame, the Yankees, and Cowboys are always on National TV: people love to watch them lose just as much as they like to watch them win.
I agree. What is the argument here? That people hate on Lebron/Kobe as much as people love them?
This thread is about the marketing from Nike and just like your example of why people would watch, people will talk about their commercials and that makes the campaign successful.
That I agree with.Kobe vs. Lebron is polarizing. Even if you hate them both, you are probably watching hoping they both fail. Nobody gives a about the Nuggets or Magic. I guess I'm off topic becuase all I read on this board is how everyone wants the Magic and Nuggets to play in the Finals, but lets be honest, who is taking time out of their schedule to make plans to sit down and watch the Nuggets and Magic?
I partially agree its a failed campaign if they don't meet, but that is assuming that is the sole purpose. Lebron has had commercials for years that came out in the playoffs, even when he was knocked out. Nike is trying to sell shoes by creating a campaign about what has been the question for over a year: who is better, Kobe or Lebron? They have become rivals even though they only play twice a year because they are 1A and 1B in the NBA right now.
Youtube
I would get one for you but its blocked here at work.

I think if you took all the "ESPN" hype away and were strictly talking basketball, most would want to watch Cavs/Lakers in the finals. But with all of the hype comes all of the hate, so hearing about a Nuggets/Magic finals is more people rooting for the Lebron/Kobe not to win. Once that goal is satisfied, no one really cares or cares loosely.
There are so many intertwined campaigns and it is very complex marketing with regards to the scale and positioning that Nike uses. Think of it like the stock market. Market theory will tell you that the price of a stock is accurate because it is a combination of company performance and history and market risks. The price and respective gains are based off of perceived risk. Riskier stocks tend to yield higher returns and lower risks yield lower returns.I partially agree its a failed campaign if they don't meet, but that is assuming that is the sole purpose. This is the same with the campaign for Nike. It won't be a failure if they Lebron/Kobe do not reach the finals. Nike already took that risk into consideration. They purchased a "stock" in Lebron/Kobe with its known perceived risks, and calculate their returns accordingly. Them getting to the finals would be like buying a stock really low that all of the sudden sky rockets because of a market factor. It is a bonus on their respected return.
Exactly.
who the wants the magic and nuggets to play in the Finals?
stop getting so butthurt every time someone criticizes LeBron.
The Nuggets and the Magic are the two best teams in the playoffs. Every basketball fan would be perfectly happy to see them play in the finals. The casual no-nothing fan might watch to see overhyped superstars from big markets, which is why Disney wants a Lakers/Cavs final.
