Attorney Johnny Cochran Dies

(Los Angeles-WABC, March 29, 2005) — Eyewitness News has learned that famed attorney Johnny Cochran has died after battling an illness.

Cochran began his legal career in the Los Angeles District Attorney's office. He later started his own firm, becoming one of the best known trial lawyers in the country.

He was Michael Jackson's attorney in the 1990s and brokered the multi-million dollar settlement in the first child sex abuse case against the pop star.

Of course, he was also the head of O.J. Simpson's defense team.

Locally, he represented Abner Louima in his civil suit against the NYPD.

ABC News is told he passed away in his home today, after suffering from an inoperable brain tumor.

I didn't say you had to get choked up over it. It's just not cool to celebrate someone's death. They are still a human being. They still have loved ones who are grieving.

My stepfather died from a brain tumor. Before he passed away, he relayed to us that he thought it was from his cellphone usage. He was on one several hours out of the day.

I would think Cochran was on one quite a bit being a lawyer.

I am very saddened to hear that he passed away, and even though I'll never understand what drives people to defend seriously guilty criminals (and even though I'm particularly sensitive to a death caused by a head injury/ailment)....but damn....

Everyone, and I mean everyone, is en led to a defense and as a defense attorney it is your job and duty to provide the best defense for your client regardless of how you feel about their innocence.
Anything less would be scandalous..outrageous!!!!!

I've read a few books about the O.J. trial and and allegedly the only lawyer that thought he was innocent was F. Lee Bailey.
