    you ruined your chemistry
    I agree 200%

It's weird, because Nelson made some good plays when he first came in, but SVG should have put Alston back right after

He played him for too long

But SVG is a smart coach; I'm sure he won't make the same mistake in game 2.
Sure, he'll play Jameer again, but for short stints only

I say you put him back in his suit..let him play next year...you can't ruin this opportunity.

    I think it's still somewhat Nelson-related

Beside the chemistry factor, Rafer played with a prefect tempo, which resulted in his teammates shooting with good rhythm, as we witnessed during the playoffs

Jameer Nelson could have gone off for 30+ points and the Magic still would have lost because he is a shoot first PG. Alston lead this team to the finals with his PG play because he made the right passes to Howard, Hedo, and Lewis. Adding another shooter to the Magic messes up their spacing and the roles of the shooters in the offense.

with Alston running the PG spot the entire playoffs, the Magic's rotations, chemistry, confidence were set and positive. Its funny how one play, shot, or subs ution can change the momentum of a game, yet I can always spot that game changer in any game.

I wish I was a momentum coach, not a head coach, because I'm not great at calling plays, but I would be the one who tells the head coach who should be on the court due to matchups, momentum, confidence, and the head coach would have to listen to me. I would be the outside perspective that most coaches never get during a game because they are too involved with play calling, which isn't a bad thing, but most of the times they miss the small things that can change a games momentum

I still think Magics will win in 6 and i expected them to lose this game. The only thing I didn't expect is losing big on game 1. I thought they would lose to somewhere around 10 points.

This is the difference between a rookie coach like SVG and a veteran like Phil.

Phil would NEVER have upset the team chemistry by playing a guy who hasn't played in 4 months over a starter that has played well all playoffs long. Huge mistake by SVG.

Inserting Nelson changed the role of all of the back court players who learned to take on new responsibility with him being gone.

The role players were unsure of their roles.

    And it showed.

Bad chemistry with Jameer Nelson> Johnson. Jammeer played ok, but Raefer missed a lot of wide of open shots, especially when lakers blew game open in 3rd.

That's not bad chemistry. You guys wave your fricken wands around that word like it's a catchall to explain the beatdown Orlando got. WRONG!!!! They got waxed because they missed all their shots from 10 feet and in and on the other end played defense like a Division 2 Basketball team.
Shooting 30 something % is a sure way to lose a game if you don't put out the effort to play defense.
While the 4-letter and it's ilk will continue to say that Kobe is like Lord Voldemort and slays all in his way, I'm thinking that the Magic are pissed they played as badly as they did and will mount up for real in game 2.
I could be wrong...but what if I'm right?

Nelson returns from shoulder injury for Game 1
    By Brian Mahoney

All-Star point guard Jameer Nelson returned to the Orlando Magic for Game 1 of the NBA finals, playing the entire second quarter before struggling in the second half against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night.

Nelson finished with six points on 3-of-9 shooting in 23 minutes of the Magic’s 100-75 loss.

“I thought he played well in the second quarter. I was happy. I thought he was getting in the paint on his pick-and-rolls,” Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. “I thought he was making really good plays.”

“And then in the second half I didn’t think he was very good at all, made one good play right at the start of the second half, and then I think he was forcing shots and plays after that, turned the ball over. I just didn’t think he was very good in the second half.”

Nelson started the second quarter, his first action in four months, and provided a quick spark. He assisted on Marcin Gortat’s dunk for Orlando’s first basket of the period, then fed Rashard Lewis for a 3-pointer. Nelson then knocked down a jumper and set up Courtney Lee’s layup, giving the Magic a 33-28 lead.

Nelson scored four points on 2-of-4 shooting and added four assists in the period.

The Magic activated Nelson earlier in the day was the backup behind Rafer Alston, who the Magic acquired in February shortly after Nelson went down with what was expected to be a season-ending shoulder injury.

But Nelson has been working out with the team for weeks and began taking part in fullcourt drills during the Eastern Conference finals.

Van Gundy said the easiest decision would have been to keep Nelson on the sideline to avoid messing with the chemistry of the Eastern Conference champions, but felt his point guard had been making progress every day and it was worth the risk to play him.

“In the end we just think he’s ready to go,” Van Gundy said before the game.

Nelson tore the labrum in his right shoulder on Feb. 2 and had surgery 17 days later. He was expected to be off the court until August, but recovered quickly and has regained his range of motion. The Magic believe the biggest issue to be his stamina.

Van Gundy said he wasn’t sure how much Nelson would play, but would not have him on a “short leash,” adding “we’re going to stick with him” even if Nelson struggles during Game 1.

Nelson averaged 27.5 points in Orlando’s two wins over the Lakers during the regular season, and he’ll get another chance to shake off the rust and play well for an entire game.

“I don’t think you lay a 25-point loss on Jameer at all,” Van Gundy said. “I thought, again, in the second quarter, I thought especially when he first got in the game he played really, really well.”

Rafer Alston didn't exactly play a great game himself which gave more minutes to Nelson.

I'm sure many will disagree with this, but I believe that Rafer has been the true X factor for the Magic this postseason. When he plays well, they win. When he hasn't, they flat out suck. They've actually won a few playoff games when Hedo and Rashard Lewis played poorly, but not when Rafer has.
