As a Cavaliers fan, I'd rate 2005-06 at the top. That year marked the first time the Cavaliers were halfway-relevant since the early '90s.

As a basketball fan I'd rate the seasons at the beginning of this decade- 1999-2000 and 2000-01- at the top. That was when the game started to open up again after the dark ages of the '90s, thanks to teams like the Kings and the Nash-Finley-Nowitzki Mavericks.

    1. 2005-2006 (Kobe's 81 points and an average of 35 points a game, Dwayne Wade's finals performance. Steve Nash wins his 2nd consecutive MVP)
    2. 1999-2000 (7 game WCF, 15 point turnaround, Shaq's dominance)
    3. 2007-2008 (Celtics strike back, Kobe Bryant wins MVP, Lakers-Celtics rivalry reignited)
    4. 2004-2005 (7 game finals series, Suns turnaround after aquiring Steve Nash, Retirement of Reggie Miller)
    5. 2002-2003 (David Robinson's retirement, Tim Duncan's dominance in the finals, WCSF game 5 Robert Horry's miss. Repeat MVP for Tim Duncan)
    6. 2003-2004 (Shutdown of the Lakers in the finals, Pistons "5-game sweep", 0.4 seconds)
    7. 2000-2001 (Lakers dominate everyone, so there is not much of a show)
    8. 2001-2002 (Rigged WCF puts it here. Lakers 3-peat)
    9. 2006-2007 (8th seed defeats 1st seed, 1st time for a 7 game playoff series, 50 point streaks, but the most boring finals sweep in recent NBA history puts this at 9. )

I love how a "rigged WCF" puts 01-02 at 8th but D-Whistle the primadonna's whistle inflated performance is a reason 05-06 is #1.

Not that last part of the season. I mean the stretch before that 81 point game.

Kobe Bryant in 2005-2006 after he was suspended for two games, a stretch where he averaged more than 40 points.

    Jan 06, 48 against 76ers W
    Jan 07, 50 against Clippers W
    Jan 09, 45 against Pacers W
    Jan 11, 41 against Blazers L
    Jan 12, 27 against Cavaliers W
    Jan 14, 38 against Warriors W
    Jan 16, 37 against Heat W
    Jan 19, 51 against Kings L
    Jan 20, 37 against Suns L

And finally, January 22, 81 points against the Toronto Raptors.

Without including the 81 point game, Kobe averaged 41.6 points per game.
Including that, he averaged 45.5 points per game. If not for the blemish against the Cavs due to it being a back to back after he endured another 4 games in 6 days, Bryant might have averaged more than that. This was all in a month.

Of course I will update my list with the streak in 2003.

    1. 2001-02 (I'll never forget this season, this was the first season i watched basketball religiously. So many strong teams, LA, Sac, Dallas, SA, Portland, Utah)
    2. 2005-06 (Dallas making the Finals, Kobe's great season)
    3. 2004-05 (Breakup of the Laker dynasty, Phx emerging as a new power, kind of a new era of basketball)
    4. 2006-07 (GS and Dallas alone puts this up here)
    5. 2003-04 (#5 and #6 could be put in either order)
    6. 2002-03 (#5 and #6 could be put in either order)
    7. 1999-00 (rewatched the LA-Por series thats aout all i know from that year)
    8. 2007-08 (eh lost interest in basketball by then
    9. 2000-01 (dont have a clue about this year, except LA dominated)

Mavs had a great championship run in 05-06

But the tainted fashion in which that season ended just RUINS the entire process. A garbage team with trash like Antoine Walker and Jason Williams in the starting 5 winning a le due to visibly and obvious one sided officiating? Give me a ING break with that . That's just terrible.

I'm not even being a homer, I'm just being objective.

    Mavs 2006 champions.

I am almost dropping tears of laughter here. Walker and Williams in 2006 were not their super duper early 2000s selves but they were still solid role players.

Role players who have no business being on a championship team.

I suppose that's why they WEREN'T on an actual championship team.
