WASHINGTON — The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane at ude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House.
PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.
"We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."

During an interview for CNBC at the White House on Tuesday, a fly intruded on Obama's conversation with correspondent John Harwood.
"Get out of here," the president told the pesky insect. When it didn't, he waited for the fly to settle, put his hand up and then smacked it dead.
"Now, where were we?" Obama asked Harwood. Then he added: "That was pretty impressive, wasn't it? I got the sucker."
Friedrich said that PETA was pleased with Obama's voting record in the Senate on behalf of animal rights and noted that he has been outspoken against animal abuses.
Still, "swatting a fly on TV indicates he's not perfect," Friedrich said, "and we're happy to say that we wish he hadn't."
Deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said the White House has no comment on the matter.

PETA isn't upset. They know that if they say something about Obama the national media will run with it. This is just a chance to get their name out there. It's free advertising. They're not re ed, they're clever.

They don't care whether or not you think they're stupid. They just care whether or not you thought about them today. And you did. Is it stupid to make a fuss over a fly? Of course. But today all across America people are thinking and talking about PETA. Even though 99.9999999999% of those people are saying "they're stupid", they're still thinking about PETA and their message. It's nation wide advertising and it didn't cost them a dime.

I'm surprised the Secret Service didn't do something about, instead leaving Obama to fend for himself.

Do they want me thinking about them, or trying to help them? I would think they would want people joining their cause, not just thinking about them. Their cause is admirable in many cases, however, they have a lot of re ed ones. They're not getting more people to join their cause by getting upset over a fly. Get upset about the cat killer in Florida. Do something productive. Saying something over a fly is ridiculous, and doesn't make people want to join them in their cause. Sure we think about them, but that's it. Now they look like idiots, and they should care if they're truly into their cause.
PETA needs to stay out of PETI's business. PETI can speak for themselves.

They want you to be kind to animals. They don't care whether you join their organization or not. Sure, if you wanted to donate money they'd take it, but honestly, how many people out there do you think had the check book out and then saw them make a fuss over a fly and then changed their minds? I'd say zero. Even if it's not zero, I'd still say that whatever donations PETA loses out on doesn't even come close to being worth the value of the free advertising they're getting by having every major news outlet in the country mention their name today. How many millions of dollars is that kind of free advertising worth?

PETO is upset at PETI for their comments on the matter. The fly obviously had no ethical regards for the treatment of Obama.
