I agree, MM. Pop's recongition of how valuable Tim is, which no Spur would disagree with, is awkward (Pop ain't nothing if he ain't verbally awkward), a slap at the aggregate value of the rest of team, and at his own "system", esp Pop's "if you don't defense it, you must sit" approach.
If we were sitting on a 5-game Tim-less L-streak, I'd say Pop's statement is ok.
But Spurs have stepped up big time, esp on defense, and have punished Rockets and Sonics, 2 top WC teams, for wins, so I think the message should have been, "Yes, Tim is an incredibly valuable player to go without, but the Spurs have shown they can win big games without him, are still NBA top team. Now, let's take this show on the road."
