McCombs invests in online banking venture

San Antonio entrepreneur Red McCombs has agreed to make a substantial investment in the online social banking company SmartyPig. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
SmartyPig uses a patented application that allows users to save money and track their progress toward specific goals online.
“SmartyPig is a revolutionary company that empowers consumers with true cash-buying power,” McCombs says. “We believe this is a tremendous opportunity to improve people’s lives and provide financial freedom by helping people break out of the vicious cycle of credit card debt. Instead of the ‘buy first and pay later’ mentality, SmartyPig helps people buy with cash and avoid being buried in future debt.”
SmartyPig offers compe ive interest rates and has teamed up with major retailers like Home Depot, Best Buy and Babies R Us to offer cash incentives and special pricing geared to advance customers’ savings goals. Customer deposits are held in Des Moines, Iowa-based West Bank and are FDIC insured.
“SmartyPig is a safe, proven platform that provides unique opportunities for consumers to maximize their savings. It has already proven successful both inside and outside the U.S.,” McCombs adds, “... I believe that within five years, SmartyPig will be recognized as a global leader in the consumer banking space.”
SmartyPig currently has more than $100 million in customer deposits and expects to surpass $500 million by the end of the year.
McCombs is one of the co-founders of Clear Channel Communications Inc., McCombs Energy, and Koontz McCombs real estate group, and is a past owner of the San Antonio Spurs.

Considering this is a Spurs forum and that article has about as much to do with the Spurs as the "What I learned about Charlie Sheen" thread in the club, yeah, I think my question is valid.
Though I didn't know only forum mods could ask questions.
Posted it because of the past Spurs connection. If no one cares it will fall away fast.
