Crazy women windmill
If you had to pick one fighting style to learn...that would be most applicable to defend yourself in a real life situation...which would it be...
Crazy women windmill
I use capoeira.
Well let's see...here are some off the top of my head:
Muy Thai
Brazilian Ju Jitsu
Karate
Kenpo
Apkido
Krav Maga
Boxing
Kung Fu
Kook Sool
Savate
Tae Kwando
Gym-kata works well against large groups of opponents.
Just make sure your very close to a pommel horse...
I don't know, but I spent some time with a ROK Army martial arts instructor. I forget what it was called, but it was a combination of disciplines they teach the Korean Army. I thought it was pretty awesome.
Rex Kwon Do
Run in circles with your fists out. It's next to impossible for the person to hit you when you do that.
Glock .40 and 12 gauge pump.
That's awesome...if you want to bedazzle your attacker with some good dance moves...
That's what I do. They stand in awe of my movements and then punch them in the balls.
There's some Russian mixture of martial arts, can't remember the name, but that's supposed to be one of the best for self-defense in a real-world situation.
If I had more confidence in my often injured knees I'd lean Muay Thai Kickboxing.
Not only do you learn relatively simple and effective fighting techniques; its one of the few martial arts out there where you'll get the sparring/training needed in order to be a decent fighter. Muay Thai has a load of contact as well compared to the "McDojo's" that you find everywhere that teach you useless crap like Tae Bo and cardio arts.
The vast number of real fights end up on the ground either because one or both of the combatants fall or because one of them quickly realizes the other is getting the upper hand standing up so he clinches or attempts a takedown. Therefore, any realistic self-defense system must emphasize fighting on the ground.
Brazilian Ju-Jitsu (BJJ) is one of the best choices if you can find it, my second choice would be Krav Maga. Stay away from the more “esoteric/internal” arts like Akido , tai-chi and kung-fu. Their primary purpose was never to be an effective fighting system.
Is that the fighting style Viggo Mortensen used in Eastern Promises when kicked the out of those gangsters with his penis flying all over the place?
EDIT: I just made that seem really gay, but it's not. He wasn't using his penis to fight, it was just flying all over the place because he was fighting them at some bath house.
See I would choose the reverse...in Krav Maga...they actually teach you...if you go down..the fights over...realistically...that "guy" your fighting might have some friends...and while you're doing an arm bar on that dude...his friends would be kicking the out of you...from what I remember...on that show "Human Weapon" which they better bring back...it was more hand to hand combat...eluding...and quick jabs and kicks...to defend...punish...and escape...
Just a few tricks I picked up at a little dojo called Cobra Kai. Maybe you've heard of it ?
Sambo?
I've taking some Muay Thai, and it's a very effective, very devastating fighting style when used properly, but I had problems with it as I never could improve my kicks, and I never properly got defending my legs from strikes down. And when your tall like I am, defending you legs is crucial.
I would pick Krav Maga, as other posters have said. Probably the best defensive fighting system in the world, with quick and tactical threat neutralizing blows stressed.
Jiu-Jitsu and Greco-Roman wrestling are also very strong fighting styles that would be great to learn.
