I have never had this problem, and since your monitor is new, I can only recommend that you check if there is a monitor driver issue (not the same as a video/graphics card driver). Maybe you installed a driver for your previous monitor that is causing problems. Or maybe your new monitor requires its driver (instead of plug-and-play). You should also make sure that the refresh rate is correctly set for that monitor.

You can also try another media player and/or different videos, but I'm just guessing really.

try another player. What kinda gpu do you have? Nowadays they come with drivers that are specific for watching video, might mess something up.

Had a same issue with two different LCD monitors. I had to put my old CRT monitor back on to see what I was doing when I went into display settings to put the "frequency" numbers back within what the new LCD monitors had "limits" on. It doesn't pop up easily until right after switching between monitors and between reboots. First, check the LCD manual for what frequency (Height & Width Htz) each display resolution (Min & Max) will operate at. Write it down! It's easy to forget during your hunt for the OS display controls. When the video signals from your VGA Card exceeds the LCD frequencies, the LCD just goes blank (especially after your boot screen). Since, you are only experiencing this during a movie playback, your movie demands a higher resolution beyond what you are usually running regular programs at. Google it, if you have to. It's correctable IF you take the time to look for it.

Most modern LCD monitors are plug and play, it won't hurt to take it back and try a new one, if it still happens either mess with the refresh rates or look for a different brand monitor. I have a 24" gateway that kicks ass.
