I am in the market for a dvd recorder. I just don't know if i want a stand alone or one for my computer. Which do you have and how much should I spend? I don't want to spend a load of money, just want to be able to record movies to take on the road with me.
One last question should I use double layered blanks or just standard ones?

Dual-Layer media isn't worth the money yet as you can get about 20 single-layer discs for the price of one Dual-Layer. The price will come down in the future but for now stick to single-layer discs.

thats weird, that is the exact drive I was just looking at. I was just not sure about the name LG.
I love LG, one of the most reliable brands (in my experience) out there.
And just browsing through the reviews for that drive I haven't seen any negative comments on it.
If you're looking for an internal one go with the NEC 3500A.
That thing kicks ass, when I was building systems (prior to my new job) that was my favorite to put into systems when customers were asking for a DVD burner. Never had any complaints.
I like the NEC's as well, But I give the edge to the LG because it supports read/write to DVD-RAM.

I bought a Sony DVD-R today, now I need a recommendation for some software(free if possible) to use to copy dvd's.
