    Should it be Hill ?

    Should it be McClinton ?

Do we still need to find a real back up point guard ?

Do both come in the game together ?

And we have to consider if Manu is coming off the bench or if Mason will be in the second unit .

McClinton is definitely a shoot first player, but he's really good at that. He can put points up on the board for us off the bench. That could be really helpful. And Tony is a shoot first point guard too.

    thoughts - discussion ?

McClinton is strictly a SG. RC said so himself.

RC mentioned during his post draft presser that Hill and McClinton would be a potential backcourt pairing with Hill playing PG on offense, yet guarding the other team's SG.

McClinton has to make the team first. By my count -- assuming we sign Blair -- there is only one spot left on the roster with the signings of Hairston and Haislip.

True, McClinton does need to earn a spot. But just because Hairston got a contract doesn't guarantee he makes the team, so it's still up in the air.

Hill proved himself to be a solid role at a backup 1 last year, his Defense is great and can only get better.

Also he won't have to create anything if you keep Duncan and/or Jefferson/Ginobili in.

it seems to be pretty clear that the spurs are banking on some growth from hill at the PG spot. he seems to be a determined kid and clearly has potential and skills so it just comes down to development. but it appears that hill is the guy. the question really becomes, who is the 3rd PG on the depth chart?

I strongly disagree with mason being back up pg.

Mason is a spot up jump shooter. He is not a pg.

Pop nearly broke Mason when he tried that experiment.
I view that as a failed experiment.

Of the options on the current roster, Hill's the one I lik but the Spurs FO may not be done dealing just yet. I have no idea what PG's are on the market at the moment however.

RC will find Pop a vet like Vaughn to fill the 3rd pg spot (safety net just in case Hill regresses). Its just the way they roll.

I think, we are ok at backup pointguard.

in todays NBA with all the hand checking rules, you dont need a guy with exceptional ballhandling anymore. that said we have Hill as a good backup and maybe another guy in McClinton, which can play kind of the 2spot, while players like Manu and Mason handle the ball more.
I dont think, we need another backup...come playoff time Tony has to play a lot anyway and in the regular season, I'd like to see how Hill is doing!

Unless someone really impresses in summer league, Hill would be the backup PG.

It's a moot point trying to answer these questions right now...ultimately it all depends on how SL goes.

    +1

I'm surprised that more people don't realize that. He's here for the 2-spot and nothing else.

It's pretty obvious that Hill will be the backup. The spurs are solid at the 1.

Hill was exceptional last year as a point guard right? And Pop never trusts rookie PGs, so I doubt Jack Mack would get it.
