Grizzlies sign No. 2 overall pick Hasheem Thabeet

First-round draft pick Hasheem Thabeet has signed with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The 7-foot-3 center from Connecticut was the second pick in the draft. Thabeet is due to make about $7.7 million over two years under the rookie salary scale.

Thabeet is the first Tanzanian-born player drafted by an NBA team. He averaged 13.6 points, nearly 11 rebounds and 4 blocks per game at UConn last season and was named Big East co-player of the year.

Thabeet is also second on the Big East’s all-time blocked shots list behind Patrick Ewing.

i would like to see a rotation of Blair and Ian on Thabeet, we already know what Blair can do i want to see how Ian handles players taller than him, one thing for sure though is i cant wait!

another good match up I want to see is how Mahinmi can play against Thabeet, a tall defensive center. I want to see if Ian uses pump fakes, goes straight up against him, tries to back him down , etc

but of course, Blair/Thabeet is the main attraction

I do not understand the way the game is called during the summer league for the big guys. If these refs were regular NBA refs the league would quickly become a 6 foot and under league.

I thought the Grizzlies did a good job in the draft, getting three defensive minded guys in Thabeet, Sam Young, and DeMarre Carroll... and then they traded for Zach Randolph, who doesn't play D and will take a huge chunk of minutes.... a very strange decision by Memphis.
