Does she really think that the US is among the world's biggest polluter?? She cant really think that.

What's with the continuous apologizing, do they think it really makes the US image in the world better. Does anyone believe all this apologizing is good?

MUMBAI, India — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton opened a three-day visit to India on Saturday by urging India not to repeat American mistakes in contributing to global pollution, and she passionately defended U.S. demands for help in fighting terrorism.

"We acknowledge now with President Obama that we have made mistakes in the United States, and we along with other developed countries have contributed most significantly to the problem that we face with climate change," she said. "We are hoping a great country like India will not make the same mistakes."

I've never understood why people bash America when it comes to global warming. Did people not see the Olympics in China last year? People were wearing masks and their was algae on the water over there. Why doesn't anyone ever blame China and India for global warming? Why is it always America's fault?

well, if you look at the stats: http://www.allcountries.org/ranks/ca...1990-2004.html

you will find, in fact, that we are often the biggest cause of environmental destruction.

LOL @ this thread. Now, I personally don't give a about global warming, but to deny that the US is one of the biggest polluters in the world is either be completely asinine or truly ignorant.

Kind of hard to lead the world in almost every category and not pollute doing so. We should wear the top spot with pride. It means that we are developed and high-tech. It's pretty hard to commute 20 miles to work and power our affluent TVs/computers/ACs/lights without burning some coal. The non-polluters on the list ride bicycles to work and live in huts with no running water.

Also, temps are a record low in other places, but San Antonio is unbearably hot and dry right now. The A/C runs forever.

Apology is the official US foriegn policy, so at least she was being consistent.

    Thought experiment:

Say there are three chain smokers in a car with the windows rolled up. Then, one of the smokers quits smoking, goes bankrupt, and dies.

Is there still smoke in the car?

Well, using the site that Supergirls link goes to, here are the MOST DANGEROUSLY POLLUTED CITIES:
    RANK CITY COUNTRY Particle Matter
    ---- --------- ------------- -----------
    1 Cairo Egypt 169
    2 Delhi India 150
    3 Kolkata India 128
    4 Tianjin China 125
    5 Chongqing China 123
    7 Kampur India 109
    8 Lucknow India 109
    9 Jakarta Indonesia 104
    10 Shenyang China 101
    11 Zhengzhou China 97
    12 Jinan China 94
    13 Lanzhou China 91
    14 Taiyuan China 88
    16 Beijing China 89
    17 Chengdu China 86
    18 Ahmadabad India 83
    19 Anshan China 82
    20 Wuhan China 79

Wish we had row and column features. The above pasted material looks terrible. Also note, China took the number 1 spot two or three years ago, their CO2 rate was growing something like 18% annual.

If you look at Carbon Footprints Per Capita 1980-2005 - Country Rankings, the USA is in 18th place.

Agreed WC. Maybe if we apologized for, say, the 1800s. That might make more sense.

China passes US as world's biggest CO2 emitter; part of article:
But according to figures released yesterday by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, which advises the Dutch government, soaring demand for coal to generate electricity and a surge in cement production have helped to push China's recorded emissions for 2006 beyond those of the US.

Developing countries will not take pollution abatement seriously unless it appears that we do so as well. It does not appear that we do if we do not acknowledge our own impact.

This is hortative posturing, not *policy* per se. We have to pretend to care.

    Ho hum.

Dude, get the out of here. You know damn well that message boards are for total losers and semi-degenerates. Are you calling yourself a total loser?

Either way, I'm sorry that you've chosen to associate with the rest of us internet bottom-feeders who you so openly and righteously disdain.

Next time you get the idea in your head to use this loserly form of communication- be a real man, put down that laptop, crack open a coors and go shoot buckshot at a picture of Muhammad.
