Not sure if that will do what you're looking for, but it's pretty amazing software.
...to edit mp3 file names. I have a load of downloaded podcasts I'd like to have in chronological order. I'm looking for something that lets me rename the files according to date, segment, etc., without having to right-click and rename each individual file. That would take days to do as I have thousands of files.
Free software is preferred but I'd be willing to pay for something if need be.
If this is in another topic, a link would be awesome. Thanks.

So do you want to name the files by using the tag fields, or do you plan on batch renaming them yourself?
Well, for working with the tags, I can recommend Mp3tag. You'll have to take a second and configure it to create the filename you want, but after that, renaming all your files should go quickly (especially if they are in the same folder, and assuming all of the information is in the tags).
For bulk renaming, Bulk Rename Utility is good (although I haven't used it in a while), but its interface may not be to your liking.
Between the two you should be set, but it all depends on how much you'll have to do manually.
The quickest way I know requires an ipod. Install all the files to your ipod, open the program idump, set the output format to whatever you want
i.e., <GENRE> - <ARTIST> - <ALBUM> - <SONG>.mp3
then copy to your hard drive.

I used tag and rename last time I edited mp3s en masse, it was easy to crack.
Most of these sound like they would work. Except for the iPod. Don't have one, don't plan on ever getting one.
Anyway, thanks for the advice. I'll try most of these and see what works best.
