Besides Mass Effect and Oblivion, which I own.

I'm looking to get into another RPG but don't know which one to get. I'm thinking either Lost Odyssey or Eternal Sonata... those usually have the best ratings, but I'd rather here from somebody how good a game is rather than a paid critic... I've enjoyed games that have been given a 4 outta 10 before, so I'm skeptical of mainstream critics.

star ocean ? the only other ones Ive played besides those are Infinite Undiscovery and starocean, both of which are pretty damn good but more for hardcore JRPG fans than the Oblivion crowd.

I heard Infinite Undiscovery is glitchy as a mother er and I heard Star Ocean is good, but the first few hours are cut scenes. I get pissed off when the tutorial is too long... I'd imagine I'd be enraged with that crap.

I'm more into SRPG's than anything else. Tactics games like Spectral Force 3.

I was going to say, that's probably the obvious one. Definitely had a lot of fun with it.

jman, if you could wait till October, for GOTY edition, I'd do that. It comes with 5 DLC's that run you at 50 dollars plus the game. It's a 110 dollar value for 60 bucks.

    Lost Odyssey, by far.

Fallout 3 and Oblivion they do have role-playing elements but they are not entirely one, so if you want an old school role-playing game, its Lost Odyssey, that game shows that old style role-playing games can still be very good.

Heard really good things about Star Ocean... so I'm gonna see if I can find somebody to trade my CoD4 for on a game trading sight. That and Operation Darkness which I'll probably pick up for 15 at a Gamestop.

    Star Ocean is .
If you want a good JRPG go with:
Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Eternal Sonata.
    If you want WRPG
    Fallout 3.

I havent found any good RPGs for the 360.

I own Lost Odyssey, couldnt get into it.
I own some other JRPG that I cant think of the name because its .

Another thing is, I dont get the Mass Effect infatuation at all. I played it, I beat it, I think I got that bad-ass armor too (Spectre, was it?). I really dont get the hype. It was a half-ass shooter with a better story, boring side missions and plain exploration taken right from a Commodore 64 with better graphics.

The combat wasnt even that cool. There werent enough status effects or similar elements. Combat boiled down to: I have the best gun in the game, when I shoot, things die quickly. No challenge at all.

I just dont get the "OMG ME2!11!!1!" thing going on right now. Yeah, it was an ok game, had its moments, but otherwise completely unremarkable in every way and I never played it again after beating it (which is rare for me to do, I play nearly every game at least twice).

Feel the exact same. That game was a let down of epic proportions after all the hype surrounding it. If it had been a much better shooter, it'd have been pretty good. If it would have had much more interesting side missions/exploration, it'd have been pretty good. If it'd have had a much more indepth party/combat system, it'd have been pretty good. All the essential elements, put together, that could have made it an all-time great are skimmed on. Even one of those done superbly well would have made it worth the hype. But but but the gfx and voice acting is superb

I thought the game was fun. I had no desire of beating it a second time, though.

I beat it 5 times and only felt like I was forcing myself to play about halfway through the 3rd play through.

It's a great game and gets better the higher the difficulty you put it on and the more you mess with squad dynamics and your own personal biotics/techs. Playing it through once as a soldier is about the least fun way of playing it.

Hmmm, you may be right. Its been awhile since I played it/beat it (launch date).

I think youre right, I was a Soldier class, but fwiw, I cant remember the damn difference or even the class names. It had a great story, ok cutscenes (prone to screen tearing) and a cool universe and galactic map system.

But the exploration of the planets felt so repe ive. And that vehicle you drive absolutely blew horse balls. If youre going to make the play area that friggin big, would it kill the game designers to make the vehicle faster and less "floaty"?

Difficulty level, again, I think youre probably right. I think I played default/normal (i dont remember) and after you got the Spectre equipment by buying the license and could therefore buy the from the guy on your own ship ($1 million credits, iirc?), the game was done. You couldnt get hurt, nothing could stand in your way and the entire combat system was then broken down to Pocket God difficulty (as in, no difficulty).

I liked the game, I thought it was a real solid entry for a new, original IP. But I think half the "OMG!" factor is purely based on it being a new IP. The gaming industry is so starved for new stuff that when something original comes out that doesnt completely suck and does everything about mediocre, it gets some unworthy praise when really if ME was called "Star Wars", it would have been lambasted and ridiculed.

FWIW, I will buy the second one because I did enjoy the first enough to see what they could do better/different. I just dont get the absolute fandom attached to it, is all. It wasnt GOTY material, yet I think it won its fair share from the various sites/publications.

That tells you how incredibly pathetic game development is becoming, imo. The process is so cost prohibitive that devs arent willing to try anything new or different with big budget les because publishers wont stick their monetary necks out for an unproven property. Thank the Stars that mobile gaming has penetrated the market because at least there devs can try crazy on a smaller scale and maybe they'll catch lightning in a bottle for a bigger budget.

Its the sad truth of modern gaming. Youre either an FPS, an RPG or a drink coaster.

yeah... your other post pretty much summed up my feelings toward the game after my first play through (soldier/normal), but I'm a big fan of BioWare and knew that multiple runs would pay off.

On insane difficulty you have to pretty much use tactics against every enemy you see and even with the strongest weapons/upgrades/armor even mini bosses are a .

Techs such as AI hijack and biotics such as warp and push become indispensable against the tougher enemies.
