ESPN to share Spanish soccer rights with GolTV

The self- led "worldwide leader in sports" will now be able to showcase two of the biggest names in the world's biggest sport, as ESPN has reached an agreement to share television rights to Spain's La Liga soccer league with GolTV to broadcast La Liga matches in the United States through 2012.

One member of La Liga, Real Madrid, has made headlines recently acquiring two of the biggest names in the sport -- Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo's transfer recently made waves for being the most expensive transfer in the sport's history.

Matches will be shown on both ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes, as well as ESPN360.com. ESPN Deportes and ESPN360.com will also have rights to Copa del Rey, Spain’s domestic cup tournament.

"We’re thrilled to work with GolTV to showcase La Liga on ESPN for the first time to soccer fans in the U.S. With the pending addition of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka, the timing is great to include this great property to the ESPN Deportes line-up, as it is the most exciting soccer league in the world today," Lino Garcia, general manager of ESPN Deportes, said in a statement.

I had heard about this and its goods news for me because Dish Network removed GolTV.
