WASHINGTON — Six months after President Obama launched a $787 billion plan to right the nation's economy, a majority of Americans think the avalanche of new federal aid has cost too much and done too little to end the recession.
A USA TODAY/Gallup Poll found 57% of adults say the stimulus package is having no impact on the economy or making it worse. Even more — 60% — doubt that the stimulus plan will help the economy in the years ahead, and only 18% say it has done anything to help improve their personal situation.
That skepticism underscores the challenge Obama faces in trying to convince the public that the stimulus has helped turn the economy around. It also could complicate the administration's plans to overhaul the nation's health care system.
"This is a wake-up call for the administration." says House Minority Whip Eric Cantor, R-Va. "People see the stimulus hasn't worked, and now you want to lay on over $1 trillion in a health care plan."
The administration declined to comment on the poll results.

Obama inherited a nearly 400 billion dollar deficit that could have been easily remedied by not spending the original bailout for which he voted and President Bush signed. Instead, he's turned it into a couple of Trillion...and, embarked on a socialist agenda that would make Lenin blush.

He voted for budget-busting bailouts during the Bush Administration and, he's signed into law the budget-obliterating stimulus; not to mention his stated desire to sign into law cap and tax and socialized medicine.
No, it's not just his fault. He has a complicit Congress and media.
I don't think Republicans could pile it as high and as fast as has Obama in just 7 months. Indeed, that may be his legacy. He's spent more money in less time than any President in history.
But, back to my original question; what has he truly accomplished?
Well with any luck he has poisoned the well for the DNC, as much as bush poisoned the well for the RNC, and the possiblity of third or fouth parties may become an imaginable reality for americans.
I think the RNC poisoned there own well but, I quibble.
I would be in favor of this climate opening the door for more than just two parties.

Remember, I was in favor of just letting the banks and insurance companies fold and was opposed to the original bailout. I damn sure don't believe that would have cost as much as has this bailout/stimulus scheme concocted by this and the previous administration and congress.

Same here. I wonder how much of the bailout money added to the CEO bonuses. Afterall, by the way the contracts for them are written, it's seen as a cash gain for the business, hence bigger bonus!
