Even though this a Charley Rosen commentary - I know how many of you feel about him - he gets it right. And he put Malone at 4th when most place him at 2nd!

    Nice comparison of the two.

Duncan is certainly #1, but McHale and Pet better than Malone? Ummmm....No. Malone would have eaten McHale for lunch and spit him out by the 2nd quarter. Thats like saying Robert Parish is better than Shaq. Shaq would have crushed Parrish by the halftime and Parrish wouldnt have come back in the game. Just because they are big and physical...bruising type players doesnt make them any less of a player. Actually it makes them more dominant. This writer sounds like he is condemning Malone for being big and imposing. Just take a look at what LeBron is doing. He is a Malone type player with SF heighth.

Because the award is determined by the votes of writers and broadcasters, too many of whom have a limited understanding of the game. Indeed, the mere fact of eyeballing a hundred of more games every season does not necessarily make a civilian an expert.
Probably talking about himself in this assessment.

Rodman over Barkley? Rodman over Garnett, Nowitzki and Hayes?

    +1

Rodman was a great niche player who happened to play the PF position, but anyone thinking that Dennis Rodman is one of the 10 best PF's to ever play the game is on crack.

And he is in love with McHale ...

Probably I would rank malone as second or third right behind Pet

Malone is better than McHale and Pet ..KG is better than any of the guys he listed, and so is Barkley..I'd also put Dirk ahead of any of them outside of Pet ..

There's a poll with the article. At the moment Duncan is ahead of Malone, 65% to 35% with 2,542 votes in.

Reason why Garnett is above Malone and Barkley, its about the rings.

So basically your premise is that KG is better player than Malone because Malone's Jazz couldn't beat MJ's bulls?

So what if Rosen puts Duncan #1. It doesn't make him a good writer. It just means he's a old Phil Jackson-worshipping hack stuck in the 1960's who is right maybe 30% of the time.

I dont agree that Garnett > Malone, but Malone couldnt lead his team to the Finals in 15 of his 17 seasons with the Jazz, which had nothing to do with Jordan.

KG didn't lead the Celtics to a championship... That was Pierce and Allen. Don't arbitrarily throw out KG's career with the Timberwolves as a measure of where he stands as a player.

Malone led his team to several Conference Finals and 2 NBA Finals... he just happened to run into the GOAT. And I don't even like the guy...

    1. Tim Duncan
    2. Karl Malone
    3. Charles Barkley
    4. Kevin Mchale
    5. Bob Pe
    6. Kevin Garnett
    7. Dirk Nowitzki

Slots 1-4 I'm 95% are in the proper order if you ask most knowledgeable fans (though it's still a pretty subjective assessment)...

Slots after that are going to be far more divided.

Why is there no love for Moses Malone? He was the first high school player ever to make the jump into the professionals and had great seasons with the Utah Stars as a 19 year old. Looking at his numbers he was just great up until he was 37 years old. He put up better all around numbers than Karl Malone and in terms of all around toughness and strengh I would take him over Karl Malone. If I were making a list of the 3 strongest players in NBA history it would be 1. Chamberlain 2. Shaq and 3. Moses Malone.
I though Moses was listed as a Center?

Moses was a center. Also, I wouldnt say he was tougher and stronger than Karl. Karl was a little shotrer but weighed as much and was in better shape. It even says in his bio that he was described as an NFL linebacker more than an NBA player. Moses bio calls him lanky. As far as the #'s. Karl has a better points per game average. More career points. More assists. A better fg% percent. he was named to the NBA all first team more times. Named to more nba all defensive first teams. I dont know where you got the idea that Moses had better all around #'s because he doesnt.

Dont get me wrong. Moses was a beast. I loved him as a player. If you looked in the dictionary for the definition of work ethic there would be a picture of Moses. You dont last 21 years in the pros without it. But Karl was a beast as well. He has the 2nd most points in NBA history only behind Jabbar and if it wasnt for MJ, he'd have his 2 rings.

25 of the last 30 les belong to MJ, Magic, Duncan, Shaq, Kobe, Bird & Olajuwon. You can play that same game for every great player outside of those 7 for the last 3 decades. As Spurs fans we're spoiled because the combination of Tim Duncan, great surrounding talent and luck have given us over a decade's worth of le contention. Most great players aren't nearly that lucky.
