They have a 'souvenir"-"specialty" TX issued license plate for Louisiana State University?

They have one for the Dallas Mavericks who have never done squat and which is smaller in size than San Antonio.

They have one for the Houston Rockets.

And Cowboys, Texans, Astros, Rangers, nearly every Texas college.

    No Spurs. NADA, Zero. zilch.

It appears these teams have had them for years. As we all know the Spurs have had 4 NBA Championships in ten years. Where's the Spur's FO marketing?, the local Spurs media?, the Bexar County delegation in Austin?

    Thumbs up their bandwagon asses?

There is no Spurs license plate. There is none despite reports that a bill was passed. It wasn't. IMO, its bureaucratic neglect and disrespect for the only Texas team that has accomplished anything in the last 10 years.. It's worth a piece of painted tin.

Remember that when you see a State politico at a NBA parade this June hogging in for some phony loyalty and their love and support of the Spurs photo op.

I believe it's the Spurs choice not to take part in it (if I remember correctly from an old thread about it).

And I also remember they "retired" a Spurs director of marketing as well if I'm not correct.

The Spurs get some coin for a Spurs charity I'm sure for granting the rights. There an expensive cost but "exposure" for a sports team with a strong base who are willing to bear such costs can't be a bad thing?

That's a pro in my mind.

What on earth could be a con by not participating? When you can buy a Spurs "authorized" home furnishings/equipment, shag for thousands of dollars a license plate seems negligible.

    It doesn't make sense.

The team has to give a $15,000 deposit for them to do the plates and the Spurs haven't done that. (The deposit is apparently refundable once 3,500 plates are sold).

I'll bet Spurs rookies spend that much on Krusty Kreme donuts in a season.

You actually can buy a spurs license plate frame via amazon.com, does look neat although it's not a spurs customized plate itself.

Im sure if you told the Spurs they'd be able to sell that many plats and make their money back they'd do it.

When you purchase these specialty plates, $22 of the $30 annual fee helps fund the maintenance, renovation or operation of the team's home facilities.
Guess the Spurs do not care about the plates since they get the voters to approve tax dollars for this. To do the plates, they would have to put up some of their own money.

But after checking with other professional sports teams around Texas, Spurs officials found out that most teams never reach the quota and decided to pass on the specialty plates.
