Hurricane Jimena currently has sustained winds of 155mph and a central pressure of 931 millibars. It's one of the fastest strengthening hurricanes in history, and it's taking direct aim at the Baja Peninsula, very close to Cabo SL.

If Jimena gains one more mph of strength, it will be classified as a Category 5 storm.

What a monster. Even though it's small, there is massive outflow, especially to the NE quadrant.

Awesome! So you're admitting that I have the ability to take over your mental processes and force you to click on this thread? Man, I rock!

Secondly, there are Hurricane Warnings for:

    * The southern Baja California peninsula coast from Bahia Magdalena around to San Evaristo

So unless you consider 74+ mph sustained winds incapable of doing damage, you might want to do a little research before wanking to your own imaginary knowledge of a topic.

And last but not least, the counting game.

    Let's see. Jimena = J = 12th named storm.

Meanwhile, Danny was the last named storm in the Atlantic. D = 4 named storms.

Does 16 = 2 to you, mookie? You're a genius. Too bad we all can't be experts in maffs like you.

Nah. I just have a low, low tolerance for idiocy, and since it's summertime, the stupid seems to be coming out in people in droves.

It's a good thought though. Perhaps I'm better off not posting on Spurstalk for a while, since half of the people here seem to be doing little else but trolling.

The media has been hyping up storms way too long just for them to dump a bunch of rain over ocean with maybe one boat in it. It may be a bit morbid, but the public only cares about storms when they cause apocalyptic destruction.

The big kicker from hurricanes is normally flood/storm surge and CSL should be OK in that regard...Except for the main drag right at the harbor most of the town is high enough not to flood.

Yeah, there are a bunch of plywood and tin slums/shantytowns out in the flats toward the airport that are gonna catch . Hopefully the government does mandatory evacuation and forces them to go to shelters. Anyone that stays there is gonna get ed up.

forecasters saying it will head over some cooler waters and weaken. will still be a major hurricane at landfall but not a cat 5. should be more like a cat 3.

This is due the Coriolis effect of the Earth, which gives the hurricane more inertial force on that side. However, this does not always mean that that NE quadrant always has the best outflow. Storms with warm moisture to the W or SW will usually ramp up on that side before equalizing.

South of the equator, the opposite is true.

The media has been hyping up storms way too long just for them to dump a bunch of rain over ocean with maybe one boat in it. It may be a bit morbid, but the public only cares about storms when they cause apocalyptic destruction.
Have you heard of Andrew? Katrina? Charley? Ike? Hugo? Was the media hyping those storms too?

Most of the time, these storms do recurve out to sea. This one will not. It's going to hit the Baja peninsula, there's a 99% chance of that. When it does, it's going to cause massive flooding and people are going to die. I don't know how meteorologists are "hyping" a storm that is going to kill anywhere from dozens to thousands of people.

Does anyone have a link for the latest satellite images?

Also, here is the motion satellite from NHC:

That's why I gave myself an "out" with that always in parentheses.

And I hope they hype the crap out of this storm. The more hype, the more people that won't be stubborn and stay in their house. I hope they're predicting that Satan is going to pop out of the middle of this thing and sodomize everyone who stays in their homes.
