Anyone see Jay Mariotti talking about T'wolves trading rights to Rubio on Around the Horn? Mentioned to SA then got bashed by the others.

We need a 3rd string PG, not a potential starter.

And we also don't need another player stasged away in Europe.

I dont believe this will be a topic. It doesnt seem important at this point anyway. I doubt we have any real interest in acquiring Rubio. It wouldnt make any sense.

Why does the team need a third PG anyway. We have Hill, Gino and Mason to bring up the ball in spot minutes anyway. There's no need for another PG. But getting Rubio and have him come over in 2011 would be awesome as he can be a backup PG, and if Hill stays, you can play them together in a quicker lineup while having Hill defend the 2 spot.

I don't see a downside to picking up Rubio's rights.

Rubio looks like he will be a pretty amazing player. I heard his contract was for 2 yrs, so he would be 21 when he comes over. This guy was starting for Spain in the Olympics as a teenager. I think he's going to be a pretty special player. Looks like prototypical foreign Spurs prospect.

All Jay was talking about was how the T Wolves needed players now and should not be stashing players away in Europe like the Spurs have done in the past. He made no reference what so ever in the Spurs acquiring Rubio or trading away any of the Spurs PGs.

Well, it's still the offseason so we need some new topics. So hypothetically speaking, if it were a possibility, I don't see why it would be a bad idea. I fail to see any downside to this type of trade.

    Hypothetically of course.

Not likely, but realistically, what would we have to give up for him?
Tony Parker. Rubio's trade value is just so godamn high. If this is the case, we could snatch Flynn or Love if it is even possible.

Rubio can't shoot and can't play defense. LOL at all of you who think this guy is good. Watch a few highlight passes and you all start to foam at the mouth. He'll get exposed whenever he does get over here. Give it up.

Nice hate going on there. At least he is marketable.

Obviously Rubio has potential, unless you are trying to tell me that every PG has to be Gary Payton who can do everything on the basketball court before getting drafted.

Give the kid a break. He basically admitted himself that the reason he is staying in Europe is because he is not NBA ready. He has two years to work on his game and improve his problem areas. He seems like a pretty smart kid. If he can improve his decision making, shooting and defense, he could be a heck of a player.

I think his decison making is good enough, all he needs to do is improve his shot and he will be as good as Jose Calderon with the flashy plays. I do not think Rubio will be able to play defense as good as the pick before him, Tyreke Evans, but will be a superb point guard pushing the tempo and running the show if he gets into the NBA.

He's not a good player. BUT WE CAN GET HIM TO SELL !

Guess some people didn't see the Olympics. The guy had command of the Spanish team (at the ripe old age of 17). I remember a 19 pg that came over to the NBA. People said he had skill but could improve. In the playoffs he was considered weak and couldn't do much to help the team. 6 years after entering the league he finally got over that label and dominated to become a Finals MVP.

So to say that Rubio can't be special because of flaws in his game now is ridiculous. If Parker can be the best player on the court at the biggest stage, I'm sure a natural PG like Rubio can adapt and learn throughout his career.

I still say if by some miracle the Spurs had a shot at a reasonable trade for him, they should do it.

Seeing as how he just bailed on the Wolves (according to them) his trade value would be below market value because teams will question his indecisiveness).

He seems pretty frail.. might need to bulk up. I think he's got great instincts and anticipation, specially on defense. But I'm curious to see if his body can take a pounding..

He's 19 and still growing into his body. Then again, he's not smaller than Chris Paul so the lack of size doesn't make him any less of a player.
