Sorry I'm new to the site and I don't know much about Luis Scola except we signed him last summer. I see yall talking about him alot and I was wondering some stuff. I know we have the rights to him, and everything, but I would like to know more. Is he ever gonna come to the Spurs? And what kind of player is he and how big? If he did officially come to SA, I sure hope he would play like he did on the Argentine Olympic team last summer. So if I could get some info about him that would be great. Thank ya. Go Spurs Go.

It's believed that the Spurs are going to use part of the MLE to bring him over this summer. That may or may not have had much to do with Rose being traded. It seems likely that he'll be on the team next season if he's willing to take a reasonable amount of money.

He's been compared to Rose by some. It's also been said that he's slightly undersized but a little better offensively than Rose. He seems like a grind-it-out kind of player with some NBA skills. He'll probably work hard and contribute but won't bring the talent to the table needed to become a star.

Personally, I see him as a quality bench player who will ease his way into Horry's slot in the rotation. At best, I would consider him to be a marginal NBA starter. If he pans out, it's possible that he could start alongside Duncan down the road. I'm no expert though, so my opinion on the matter isn't worth any more than anyone else's.

And just for the sake of accuracy, the Spurs haven't actually signed Scola. They simply own his rights. The two parties still need to agree on a contract before he can come over.

To add to Brodels above: Scola is also a mainstay of the Argentine national team, which means he is extremely well-coached. You see a guy like Nocioni in Chicago, for his first year he's playing pretty well. (Not sure about Delfino - he seems younger.) Also, Scola seems to play well in big situations.

Delfino broke into the National Team roster in 2004. Prior to that he only played some youth tournaments with Argentina but not much else. Nocioni, Manu and Scola have over 5 years of experience with the National Team and more than 10 if you consider the Arg. youth National Teams.

And Delfino is a rookie coached by Larry Brown.

Ok, I'll answer since Mr. Flash Gordon quoted you...

Scola has missed only 2 games in the whole season for Tau, between Spanish League, Spanish Cup and Euroleague. And he has played as much summer basketball as Manu for the past seasons, but in Europe the total amount of games for a club isn't that high, so there's no possible comparission.

But he's a different kind of player than Manu, still, he brings a lot of energy into the team.

I've seen him play quite a few times. Luis is very much like Rose with his knack for hustle points and body positioning. He doesn't rebound as well for some reason, Rose is better in that department. Rose knows how to get into people's legs better and box out pretty well and he had excellent explosion.

Scola can score, though. He has better hands. He knows angles, how to set screens...passes pretty well and he moves without the ball very well. He also knows the Flex offense, which will only add to the Spurs phenomenal execution offensively, since the Spurs use some of those options in their arsenal He fouls a lot. He's extremely intense and may be part of the reason he is so good off the bench.

Out of the mold of: Malik Rose, Brian Cardinal, Eduardo Najera.

I know this post is old, but lately Scola has been hot from the field, leading his team (Tau Ceramica) into the first seed in the Spanish League and into the Final Four of the Euroleague. Here are his season stats so far in the Spanish League regular season and in the Euroleague, where his team is in the Final Four that will be played in Moscow. There will play against Maccabi Tel Aviv, CSKA Moscow and Panathinaikos from Greece.

    Spanish League stats (regular season):
    GP: 29
GS: 24 (Rested some games, also in Europe when a player is rested, it's not like the US where Superstars always start).
    Total minutes: 861 (29.68 mpg)
    Points: 544 (18.75 ppg)
2 pts. FGA: 354 (12.20 FGA per game)
2 pts. FGM: 223 (63% FG; 7.68 FGM per game)
    FTA: 140
    FTM: 98 (70% FTP)
    Offensive Rebounds: 77 (2.65 orpg)
    Defensive Rebounds: 126 (4.34 drpg)
    Total Rebounds: 203 (7 rpg)
    Assists: 66 (2.27 apg)
    Steals: 46 (1.58 spg)
    Turnovers: 50 (1.72 tpg)
    Blocks: 33 (1.13 bpg)
Blocks received: 14 (0.48 per game)
    Fouls commited: 100 (3.44 fpg)
Fouls received: 135 (4.65 per game)

Euroleague ac ulated stats (Regular season + Top 16 + Quarterfinals):

    GP: 22
    Minutes played: 624 (28.36 mpg)
    Points: 332 (15.09 ppg)
2 Point FGA: 233 (10.59 FGA per game)
2 Point FGM: 133 (57% Field Goal percentage); 6.04 FGM per game
    FTA: 95
    FTM: 66 (69.4% FT Percentage)
Offensive Rebounds: 45 (2 off. reb. per game)
Deffensive Rebounds: 97 (4.4 def. rebounds per game)
Total Rebounds: 142 (6.4 reb. per game)
    Assists: 39 (1.7 apg)
    Steals: 30 (1.3 spg)
Turnovers: 57 (2.5 TO per game)
    Blocks: 16 (0.7 bpg)
Fouls commited: 84 (3.8 per game)
Fouls received: 102 (4.6 per game)

He is having a great year in scoring, with high FG%, but he needs to improve his rebounding, both in the offensive and defensive ends. Also, remember that those minutes are a lot considering that games last 40 minutes, not 48.

The way Manu plays, I don't see his body lasting another 3-4 years. So I hope Scola (and Manu) takes some games off. Thank heavens there are any Olympics. OBTW, "Way to go Timmy. Think it was smart to play now?" <eyes rolling>

Good to see Scola's 70% FT% will fit right in. <Gadzooks>
