This is 5 months too late but at least it was done. The players quit on him a looooong time ago.
Astros ax Cooper; Clark takes over
HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros have fired manager Cecil Cooper.
The Astros are 70-79 and have lost seven straight games. Third-base coach Dave Clark will take over as interim manager for the final 13 games this season.
The 59-year-old Cooper was hired on Aug. 27, 2007, to replace Phil Garner. Houston went 171-170 under Cooper, who was the bench coach under Garner between 2005-07.
General manager Ed Wade said a change was needed. He said making the move now will give the Astros a chance to evaluate "other facets of our operation" heading into the offseason.
He said Clark would be considered a candidate during the search for a new manager.

Who should the Astros target for a new manager? Would you like the idea of keeping Dave Clark as the manager or should the get some fresh blood in there?
I wouldn't want Clark in there. They need fresh blood and fire injected into the franchise. Someone that isn't afraid to play some young kids and teach them how to play at the MLB level.
why not wait 13 more days
what a classless team
as opposed to firing the manager that took the team to the NLCS two years ago but firing him cause players got hurt?
Stay out of the ing baseball forum you illiterate .
dbacks made the right move
they had not hit for over 2 years
they have started hitting better
firing a coach with what 6 games left in season is pretty classless
too bad the owner won't fire himself, it would be more effective.
cleveland fires their manger fires it manger but
he finishes this season class
