Best of luck to you.
Well I just got my pink slip at work. The company is closing their offices in Ft. Worth and moving them to Denver. We've known for quite some time this was coming, but now it's official. Our last day of work is December 18th. I'm glad I'm in Texas where things are somewhat better than in other states, but it's still scary thinking about being unemployed in this current economic downturn.
sorry to hear it man. goodluck and Godbless.
Sorry to hear that. No chance you can re-locate to Denver?
This will be a good opportunity to evaluate where you are in life.
We were given that option; however, my 2 of my kids are here in the DFW area and the other two are in Memphis and Bossier City and I didn't want to move further away from them. I also had a grandson born in August and I wanted to be close to him.
Besides - I grew up in Michigan and I hate winter! And the final thing was that they weren't paying enough to compensate for the higher cost of living in Denver.
So - I'm staying here and joining the ranks of the unemployed. There's over 100 of us leaving that day - so it will probably cause an uptick in the unemployment numbers for this area.
Ouch. Good luck, hope you find something else fast.
FIFY
Good luck, CS.
Good luck, been there its rough out there. Lucky you're given two months notice, any severance package? Start looking, it took my a good 3 months to find a decent job that paid me at least the same money as before.
Best of luck to you. Hope you are able to land on your feet, and maybe even come off better for it.
Did they actually give you the news on a pink piece of paper?
I know we have a lot of major disagreements in the political forum, but I'm sad to hear that and good luck in your job search.
Thanks everyone for the good wishes. They are giving us 8 weeks severance and we have our last retention bonus if we stay till the end. So with my unused PTO and bonus and severance, it's about 3 months worth of expenses for me. So if I start looking now, I'll have about 5 months before the money runs out.
I'm in Fort Worth - so if anybody has any leads or can put me in contact with someone, I'd really appreciate it. I've been doing administrative work for about 20 years - including Accounts Payable and Receivable, payroll, and Office Manager. I've also worked for a big home builder and a custom home builder. Right now, I'm working for Kaiser Permanente as an Account Service Representative.
Is there anything you are interested in? Cars? Motorcycles? Bicycles? Boats? Computers?
Dont limit yourself to doing one thing because thats all you have known for the past 20 years. Now's your chance to take that leap and do something you really enjoy.
Man, best of luck to you... I'll keep my eyes peeled!
You thought it was a piece of paper all this time?
Best of luck, Crooky.

hmm... I'd imagine the CoL in Denver would be similar to what you'd find in the metroplex.
Major bummer. I'll keep my eye out for anything like that. And keep you in my prayers as Angel has.
I'm looking as well, the funding for my position will probably dry up come March..if not ealier (much longer time)...but nonetheless I've started looking too and have a few interviews set up already.
Sorry to hear about that and best of luck to you.
