NBA fan base in China is very large, and I've got some interesting stuff about Chinese Spurs fans. I hope you like it.

1.I did a survey asking about "which kind of Spurs fan are you", the results illustrates information below:

    -87.0% are Tim Duncan fans

    -69.1% are Manu Ginobili fans

    -34.0% are Tony Parker fans

    -34.6% are Burce Bowen fans

    -22.8% are Kobe haters

    -17.3% are Garnett haters

(sorry I forgot to add CP3 and Dirk as poll options...)

    2.Nicknames

    Manu ginobili

-The Nimble Snake: His unique skill of dribbling like a snake, which dazzles his defenders.

Argentina's Flying Man: MJ is regarded as NBA's flying man by Chinese fans, Ginobili is Argentina's, both have magic powers to dominate ball games.

    Tim Duncan

-The Stone Buddha: He's strong and calm , and always makes teammates better, just like a buddha.

    Tony Parker

-The Little Sporty Car: For his amazing Speed, nice appearance.

    George Hill

-Little Hill: Deriving from his name.

    Michael Finley

-Old Ox: In Chinese culture, ox stands for loyalty, diligence, humility, durability, with a lowly appearance.

    Robert Horry

-The Key Man: Horry is known to Chinese fans for his big shots.

    Fabricio Oberto

-Uncle O: He looks aged, matured, and likes doing things slowly but surely.

    Bruce Bowen

-Third Uncle: Chinese fans once considered NBA's 3 experienced and tactful veterans: Mutombo, Juwan Howard, and Bowen, namely First Unlce, Second Uncle, Third Uncle.

Some Chinese fans started to call Blair “ Prime Minister ”, as he has the same name with former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.

How many Spurs fans do you think there are in China? Which team do most Chinese follow? Do you ever see any Spurs jerseys or t-shirts?

    Yes by a huge margin.

A big portion of games broadcast by our national TV are Rockets games.

Of course this year is different coz Yao's down. So they choose to show more Lakers games

    Bruce Bowen

-Third Uncle: Chinese fans once considered NBA's 3 experienced and tactful veterans: Mutombo, Juwan Howard, and Bowen, namely First Unlce, Second Uncle, Third Uncle.
I'm pretty sure it's not for this reason he's called Third Uncle. I think it's related to a character in some famous kung fu novels, which i'm not very familiar with.

Anyway it's great to see these nicknames in English

1.In China the max number of TV audiences in a single NBA game was about 200-250 million(of course not everyone counted is real NBA fans, some do not know much about bball and just like to watch Yao vs. Yi, or Houston vs. LA etc.), the average number should be about 30-50 million per game. So it's safe to say China has more than 30 million NBA fans.

While in terms of Spurs fans, I assume the number could be about 1 milliom, ...at least 1 million. Yes most fans love Houston Rockets but Spurs also attract a big number of fans.

2.It's obviously Rockets. But it's kind of ridiculous that some Rockets fans do not really love NBA, they just root for Yao.

3.Yes, I have. But not very often. Most Chinese fans do not buy jerseys, in fact, some buy fake jerseys, and only few people buy jerseys as a hobby.

I think there would be a lot of Spurs fans in China because of Bruce Bowen's trips there. Thats why he almost got voted into the all star game

Damn, that's awesome. I had heard about Timmy being called the Stone Buddha, but I love Manu's nickname, too!

But I don't think we should use the fat Buddha for Timmy since he lost weight. Here's one picture of a skinny Buddha statue, unfortunately I have no photoshopping skills whatsoever.

I'm sure people will favor the fat Buddha, of course, because everyone wants to rub Timmy's belly.
