wouldn't let me post a poll
I may be a bit biased, since my cousin and Priest grew up together, and I met him a couple of times, and always watched his games, I think he should be in the hall of fame, based on his numbers even though he got hurt. Very cool dude
Career Statistics: 106 Games played
8,172 yards rushing 86 Rushing Touchdowns
2962 yards recieving 8 Recieving TDS
As someone said above not enough years.
Great player, needed probably 3 more years of great play.
If terrell davis isn't getting in and he has superbowls and mvp then priest holmes is definitley not getting in
His fumble in the playoff game vs the Indy Colts put a huge dent in the Chiefs chances in their superyear.
Not just that one play, but if the Chiefs go on to Bowl there i give him more consideration.
Agree, not enough years.
In his career ending (well maybe not technically but for all intents and purposes) injury I saw the headbutt coming on from Steroids Merriman and wondered why Priest didn't take cover. Merriman had already established that season that he was a headbanger. Priest wasn't going to gain any more yards on the play. That finished his chances too.
he didnt even play in the superbowl he was a backup,by that time jamal lewis was the starter
I played in high school with Priest Holmes and am about as big a homer for that dude as anyone outside of his family. I think that if Terrell Davis is a Hall of Famer, then Priest Holmes is. But I don't think Terrell Davis is a Hall of Famer. And while Priest had a 3-5 year run of dominance during which he played at an exceedingly high level, I don't think that's enough to make him a Hall of Famer.
He's 36th all-time in rushing yards (31st in yards per game); he's 14th all-time in rushing TDs and 22nd all-time in rushing/receiving TDs; he's 54th all-time in yards from scrimmage. He's a 3-time Pro Bowler and a 3-time First Team All-Pro player; he's a 1 time Offensive Player of the Year.
Those are all great accomplishments -- and for anyone who knows Priest's story, the accomplishments are actually relatively amazing, given how many people (other than himself) basically thought he wasn't talented enough to be that sort of player. But they all occurred in a relatively short window of time and what records he once held have already been eclipsed by other backs.
He actually did play in that game -- he had 4 carries for 8 yards and caught a pass for 4 yards, but he was obviously the backup. Nobody remembers it, but he did have a key 3rd down run in the AFC Championship game that year in Oakland to help the Ravens win that game.
I think it's bull . He was an exceptional player and there's got to be room for him in Canton. Never been a Chiefs nor Horns fan. Or Holmes HS, for that matter. The only thing to slow him down was out of his control.
I think that Priest Holmes should be in the HOF, if LT and Marshall Faulk are going in, no doubt that the Priest is coming in as well.
He didn't go to Holmes HS.
I was wondering why a thread was made lobbying for him to make the HoF. Forgot he was a longhorn.
Only because he beat the crap out of them repeatedly -- which was doing something in SA back then.
Actually, I think that school is named for the Steelers' wide receiver.
LOL Winers
That. He was as good as the game, but only for really 5 maybe 6 years. You gotta do the decade and crack 10,000 rushing yards to even get into the conversation.
Dude, Faulk rushed for over 12,000 yards. He had a career in Indy, and then he had another one in StL. These two careers (Holmes/Faulk) aren't even in the same conversation. I say all of that as a HUGE Priest Holmes fan. He just didn't do enough for long enough.
And LT might have had the best 8 year soan in NFL history for a RB.
I'd want Chuck Foreman inducted before Priest Holmes and that's just for starters.
