Alright, I'm trying to start up a personal website and want to register a domain and find a place to host my site at the lowest possible cost. Most likely I will build and maintain my site via Frontpage... I don't know if I will need FTP or not...

    Any suggestions?

I've used http://www.1and1.com on my last two and they've been pretty good. My work site is through http://www.pagesgarden.com/ for the sole reason that they're cheap (I think it's slow, but I seem to be the only one.)

It's not the cheapest, but I use Ipowerweb. For a low cost I get tons of features. And the company is large and has been around for a long time.

    I'm satisfied.

We use realwebhost. Their customer service is incredible -- for example, I called the owner at home at 4:30am to fix something and they were happy I called, not pissed off.

We have two dedicated servers from them.

For domain registration, the best is godaddy.com. Cheap, good customer service and lots of good features.

    P.S.

While frontpage is easy, learning html is pretty much just as easy and you can do so much more. If you have a free weekend, you can teach yourself html and will be able to create pages that are way better than anything you can do with frontpage.

Also, I don't think you'd need an FTP program if you are using frontpage. If you decide to try html, there are so many good FTP programs out there that you can get for cheap that are pretty much all the same.

Thanks for the recommendations (and feel free to keep them coming if anyone has any other suggestions). I'll do a little research on these sometime this week.
