I remember back from 96-2001 whenever the Yankees won 4 WS all of a sudden people who lived 2,000 miles away from NY became Yankee fans. Tomorrow I expect to see people driving around Louisiana with Yankees car flags, T-shirts, etc. It will be all over the country .... makes me sick.

There are not nearly as many Spurs/Phillies fans on this board as there are Spurs/Yankees fans. I never knew New York and San Antonio were so intertwined before I visited the baseball section of ST.

true, but people do jump on of Yankees bandwagon a lot around NJ, NYC, and PA area. Maybe no where else, but I know lots of people who were Phillie fans and just became Yankee fans last night after they won. I myself stick with Yankees win or lose

MLB should have a salary cap then we will see how well they do. Its crazy to see how the Yanks have a player salary of 220 million and a team like the Padres(yeah I know, Padres ) is around 40 million.

..look what the Rays did with their payroll last year. It can be done...it just kind of sucks to know that the Yankees office people are so bad that they have to get an all star team to win because they don't know how to find people that can just play like a team. Granted, this Yanks team probably played more like a team than any in recent times, but still...

I asked a so called Yankee fan (from N.Y) why they weren't a fan of the Mets, and this is the response I received. "The Mets suck, that's why". No shame exists with the s which is the so called Yankee fan.

There are many reason why Yankee fans hate Mets and Met fans hate Yankees it's like Mavs vs Spurs rival

This person isn't a Met fan because the Mets aren't as successful as the Yankees. That is the issue. Said fan doesn't even hate the Mets. The reasons for choosing the Yankees is based on success and notoriety. Whereas the Mets are ignored because of being the opposite.

A large amount of Yankee fans don't develop a distaste for the Mets until after they become Yankee fans.

If MLB had a salary ccap the Yanks, Red Sox and other big market teams would still be operating on the high end of it and the teams like the Royals and Marlins would still be spending next to nothing.. The problem is not just big teams paying big money, it's that other teams have owners that refuse to spend anything. They just pocket it.. Yanks pay into the luxory tax and other teams don't put it back into the team..

The Yankees, like the Cowboys and the Lakers, have a huge number of bandwagon fans. There are even more when the team wins a championship. Even the Red Sox picked up a large number of bandwagoners in recent years. Most these 'fans' are obnoxious and fall away when the team doesn't win.

Anyone from NY will tell you that you have to pick sides when you're a kid. You can be a Yankee fan or a Met fan. You can't be both and you can't change sides. Those they try to be both or switch sides are just pathetic.

Same here. I don't like Jeter but I respect him. The guy is a ing ball player in the purest sense of the phrase. I hate that ARod has a ring. Now we will have to listen to "greatest player of our generation" talk for the rest of his ing career.

oh ok, well I know I am a Yankee fans and don't like the Mets, I grew up a Yankee fan and haven't liked them since I was younger. I don't remember when I first started not liking them since it was so long ago, but always have. I have other family members who are Met fans so I do watch them

Yup that is pretty much how it goes lol. I don't live in NYC, but I live close enough to know this even around me either Yankees or Mets fan not both. Same goes for Nets and Knicks either Nets or Knicks can't be both

I actually became a Yankees fan in 96. I was living in Atlanta at the time. I never watched baseball at all before then, but I loved Jeter, Pet te and the rest of the team. I've been a fan ever since. Even through the crappy years.

Since 2001 the Yankees have been lacking in one thing to be a good team...pitching. That's the be all end all. They had some sorry ass signings recently...Pavano, Johnson etc..but now they seem to have some dominant pitching. I would like to see them get another really good pitcher so they can have a 4 man rotation in the playoffs and not a 3 man.

As much as I hate the Yanks, I do like and respect Jeter and Rivera. If they were on any other team, I would probably like them alot more. I would love to see Jeter in Boston, but there is a better chance of freezing over. Jeter is retiring a Yank.
