Question: Trip to San Antonio

Being a Spurs fan for 8+ years I've never seen the team in action.

Now this year might be different, I'm flying to New York around Christmas to see my wife, and will definitely watch Spurs @ Knicks on Dec 28 .

On top of that, we're thinking about going to San Antonio to see them in AT&T as well. Spurs have a lot of home games around Christmas. Wow seeing the Riverwalk, being with thousands of Spurs fans, It's just so exciting even just think about it .

So my friends,
- is there a direct flight from NY to San Antonio?
- is AT&T center in the city center?
- is public transportation convenient around there (believe it or not neither of us can drive, yet)?
- anywhere els interesting in San Antonio that's worth seeing

-Yes there are direct flights.
-Yes the AT&T center is in the center of the city. It still has the old name on it though which is the Alamo Dome. They are raising taxes to have it changed.
-The only public transportation available is horse and buggy but it only takes two hours to get to the AT&T center from any hotel so that's cool.
- I would definately check out the historic west side while you are here. Take a stroll around this part of town and take it all in. Just remember to bring plenty of cash as most places don't take credit card or check.

- Yes, direct flights, check with Expedia or any other travel site to see what's available.
- No, it's on the near east side.
- Public transit is not what you are used to in NYC. Your best bet will probably be a taxi.
- San Antonio is known for its River Walk and the Alamo, both of which are smack dab in the center of town. The Spanish Governor's Mansion is also downtown. Without a car you are going to be severely limited in your ability to see much else. The bus system is decent (for Texas) but it's slow.

Texas and don't have a car/ can't drive just don't mix. Too much space and virtually no public transport.

If can afford trip to NY and a trip to SA and back, I think they can afford a Taxi ride that will be about 10 min(4-5 miles) from downtown.
Things to see in downtown. Alamo, mabe a bowl game at alamo dome, river waik and the dozens of bars and resteraunts, River Center Mall, Market Square, Ribleys believe it or not, Tower of Americas , carraige rides and Mi Tierra to name most of the attractions in downtown area.

The San Antonio Missions(always open), Sea World and fiesta Texas theme park are all open on a limited basis during that time I believe.

I dont know about direct flights, but either way would be costly from NY.

What I will say is that you will find most people here will go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Hope you enjoy your stay.

I will not see any Spurs game because of this f..g rodeo road trip ... but my question is :

Can you give me an advice on the better place to go to shop some SA Spurs gear ?

I'm sure i will find a Spurs shop a the At&t center, but i'm also sure we can find some good places with good prices !

Quick word of advice. I know in other city's it's called the "city center", but in San Antonio, it's just downtown. You might get a strange reaction if you ask the taxi driver to take you to the city center.
Also, as said before, public transportation sux. San Antonio is a massive city area-wise so the majority of people use vehicles. A Taxi would be your best bet, or get your license before then and rent a car. Although, the climate is great there, so you can possibly just rent a motorcycle if you really want to.

And Fiesta Texas is great, Sea World, the McNay Art Museum, the Witte Museum, of course, the Alamo, the Spanish Missions. I'm sure you'll get a lot of brochures at whatever hotel you stay at. If you want to, PM me and I can get you in contact with some relatives who would help you in any way they can.

well, people sell tix here on these forums sometimes, but you can always just go to ticketmaster.com, or check craigslist. You can probably find a decent deal there. Do they sell tix on ebay?
