It's not a nickname. He is, in fact, a Ninja.
I'm a huge fan of #32. He's one of my heroes and my all-time favorite Spur. I've actually had the privilege of meeting him a few times while living in Los Angeles. He was a great player and is incredibly friendly and talkative with the fans! Just an all-around amazing person...
But the one thing I never knew about him was how he got labeled "Ninja"! I remember him performing some incredible tomahawk dunks, but not sure that was the reason for the name. Was that it?
Does anyone know how he got the name Ninja?
It's not a nickname. He is, in fact, a Ninja.
he got it because he killed a ninja in a bar once
He dressed up as a Ninja Turtle one year for Halloween, I know that much.
From some B-ball card website, best I could find...
"Sean Elliott is one of the most popular basketball players ever to play for the Spurs in San Antonio. After a stellar college career at the University of Arizona, Sean had a great NBA career with the Spurs and Pistons. His nickname was "The Ninja" because he was silent but deadly from 3pt land".
My all-time favorite Spur as well. I wore 32 in school because of him
He said it was because he worked out like crazy and his traps got huge and someone said he looked like a ninja turtle.
I didn't even know that was his nick name.
Because in the early 90s Ninjas were BAD ASS.
He was already in my top 3... but after hearing this he gets the clear #1 slot.
Ninja is as ninja does.
