    nba.com has 2 Spurs. Timmy & Bruce

    Fan Voting 2005:
    Defensive Player of the Year

With the 2004-05 season coming to a close, NBA.com wants to know who you think should win each of the six major regular-season awards. Take a look at each of the top candidates below, then cast a vote for the most deserving.

    Bruce Bowen, San Antonio Spurs
An All-Defensive Team member four seasons running, Bowen’s never been a numbers guy (3.5 rpg, 0.7 spg, 0.5 bpg) but remains a stellar perimeter stopper.

    Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers
One of the top rebounders (5.9 rpg) and shot-blockers (0.8 bpg) at the guard position, Bryant (1.3 spg) has earned five consecutive All-Defensive Team honors with his smothering D.

    Marcus Camby, Denver Nuggets
Ranking first in total blocks (193) and second in defensive rebounds per 48 minutes (12.6), Camby’s finally looking for respect after never having received a defensive accolade.

    Tim Duncan, San Antonio Spurs
Duncan (11.3 rpg, 2.7 bpg) has garnered Defensive Team honors every year of his career but has yet to earn the coveted DPOY award
    .

    Kevin Garnett, Minnesota Timberwolves
The only player in the league to be named First-Team All-Defense the last five seasons, Garnett is first this year in rebounds per game (13.8) in addition to contributing 1.4 blocks and 1.5 steals per outing.

    Larry Hughes, Washington Wizards
Leads the NBA in steals on both a per game (2.8) and 48-minute (3.5) basis, while adding 6.4 rebounds a night.

    Allen Iverson, Philadelphia 76ers
Iverson’s second in the NBA in steals per game (2.5) and, some would say, No. 1 in toughness. He has led the league in steals three times.

    Shawn Marion, Phoenix Suns
Marion is on pace to become only the second player (David Robinson, 1991-92) to rank in the top five in rebounds (11.5 rpg, 3rd) and steals (2.0, 4th). He also posts 1.4 bpg.

    Shaquille O’Neal , Miami Heat
Having magically reversed the fortunes of the Miami Heat this season, O’Neal is fifth in rebounds (10.6 rpg) and second in total blocks (169).

    Ben Wallace, Detroit Pistons
Two-time Defensive Player of the Year is second in rebounds (12.1 rpg), sixth in blocks (2.4) and 21st in steals (1.4 spg).

    Bruce Bowen.
the man has been insane this year.....he's locked up anyone we've asked him to

he hasnt played D this good since the last year jordan was in the league

do you guys remember the last game jordan played against the spurs? I remember so vividly, this isolation play for Jordan, and Bowen was guarding him on the left wing.....Jordan tried so many fakes and Bowen was on his ass like no other...Jordan ended up falling down and instead of going for the steal, Bowen stayed right on him and made Jordan give it up like a lil

    well

thats how bowen has played this season
oh yeah, and his March was freakin insane...he guarded everyone and owned each one of them

I'm generally not a homer, but I would have to go with Bruce too. With Artest and AK47 not playing and Tim missing significant time, I think it really has to come down to Bruce and Ben Wallace. His flies under the radar and that may have hurt his chances in the past, but it's time.

    Bruce Bowen

Although, I think his defense was better last year, but his overall game is better this year.

I think he made a concerted effort to be more like Artest this year, because he lost to him last year just for that reason.

Bowen was always a strictly better defender than Artest, but Artest had the better overall game and got the publicity for it, even winning player of the week a couple of times more than Bruce.

Marcus Camby or Tyson Chandler should win it. But I give the edge to Camby.

Camby has the numbers, but Bowen deserves it.

    I hope Bowen gets it...

    Bruce Bowen.

Although I have seen him have better defensive years, where, IMO he shut down guys better, it seems other years, than this year.

But, Bruce Bowen is THE defensive player of the year, no question.
