It's still rather early to make any real analysis on teams in the NBA, but I will list a few here and what I think so far.
Phoenix Suns - At 9-2, I wouldn't get too excited about this team. They haven't beaten any good teams and have lost both games against last year's NBA Finalists, the Magic and Lakers. This team is just repeating and headed towards what the 2004-2007 D'Antoni Suns did: make shots, win regular season games, play no defense, lose in the playoffs. What happens when the shots don't go in? Nothing personal against the Phoenix Suns, but they're just setting themselves up for failure.
Lakers - Again, if I'm a Lakers fan, I'm not too excited about this team. They have lost to Dallas and Denver while beating up on lottery teams. The one team that truly competed with the Lakers each time out on the floor last season, the Denver Nuggets, beat their ass 105-79. So what now Lakers? This team is pretty mediocre. Ron Artest is averaging 11.1 ppg on 41% shooting. Trevor Ariza is shooting ty at 42%, but at least he's averaging 19.4. Still better than Artest in FG% and PPG. I wouldn't expect too much out of this Lakers team this year, they'll go about 51-31 and lose the second round in 5 games. I'll ask the same question I ask for Phoenix: What happens when the shots stop going in? Then what?
Blazers - Nothing to get excited about here. As far as I'm concerned, the Blazers have only played 2 real teams thus far. The Nuggets, which not surprisingly, they lost. And then the Spurs, which they beat, but the Spurs just didn't shoot the ball well. What happens if the Spurs make their shots and the Blazers don't in that game? Then what? This team is not intimidating. Sorry Portland fans.
Mavericks - 7-3, but a team that was 67-15 with Dirk, Howard, and Terry as its core, how good is anything this team does anymore? Jason Kidd for Devin Harris remains the single worst trade in the NBA of the 2000's. Nothing to say about this team other than it should have been disbanded and rebuilt 2 years ago.
Nuggets - As far as I'm concerned, this team is playing the best basketball in the league right now while the Spurs' new players adjust to Pop's system. Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Nene, Kenyon Martin. These guys are not the 2005-2007 Nuggets that the Spurs owned in the playoffs. They will prove to be tougher compe ion for the Spurs in the 2010 WCF's.
Spurs - Again, this team has been slowed by injuries at the outset to Tony and Tim. Expect nothing less than a 59-23 record from the Spurs this year and their 4th NBA championship in 8 seasons. Spurs vs. Nuggets in the WCF's will be a great series.
The East as usual doesn't matter until the playoffs.
Chicken and rice is oh so nice.
what an unbiased analysis of the nba
nobody has impressed so far IMO..maybe Denver..
i think every team in the nba is doomed if they dont make their shots
It's like he's not even trying anymore.
SD usually leaves his common sense in the fridge. I think he has forgotten to thaw it today.
Lakers and Spurs are far superior to every other team in the WC, including the Nuggets. The Blazers could get there, but they are extremely short on wing defence.
It's been a crazy start this season.IMO
the elites are losing the scrubs are winning. damn it must be early
The Nuggets are by far the best team in the West....right now.
The Suns are the weakest link in the West. They are all show against weak teams and no go against strong teams.
The Blazers are playing some damn good ball right now but, they still have to show the league what they can do in the playoffs.
The Spurs and Mavs are still trying to find out who they are and it now seems the Lakers may be doing the same.
Still, it is so early in the season and I don't look for the really solid teams to make strong showings until around the All Star break. Too many split personalities among the ranks presently.
Right now the Spurs are an average team.
Doesn't mean they're going to stay that way by any means, but they've got a lot of growing to do.
