    Joe Johnson

I'm not saying he is the best shooter or the most prolific 3 pt gunner, but man, his jumper is so elegant and effortless

I hate to say it because I despise him with every fiber of my being but...

Ray Allen has a pretty textbook J. It's just perfect.

On a side note, I literally cringe when I watch Shawn Marion shoot. I'm not even exaggerating, I have to close my eyes. It's like watching a puppy get ran over by a truck.

Glen Rice and Mich Richmond had better looking jumpshots than Millers in the 90's in my opinion.

Miller's jumpshot was ugly, with that sideway fling of his.
Rice has this locked in the 90s.

Glen Rice's was so effortless and natural

As far as "looks" go; Glen Rice was the best looking hands down.

I think for effectiveness, it goes to Reggie.

Anthony Morrow has a superb shot too.

Since this is a Lefty's search for a "beautiful" jumpshot, I'm wrong and it would be Glen Rice. For looks, it's Rice > Allen

    Exactly.

A couple more names to throw out there:

    Redd

    T-Mac

    Gordon

Now that I'm thinking about it there are a lot of people who have really beautiful shots.

Spealing of left-handed players, have you noticed that their shooting hand is less centered than righties, like more above the left shoulder?

Definitely Finley. Smoothest, most fluid shot that I've ever seen.

It might have something to do with hand-eye dominance.

Most left-handed people are left-eye dominant (like most right-handed people are right eye dominant). However, this is not always the case. I, for example, am right-handed but left-eye dominant.

(You can determine your eye dominance by forming a circle with both of your hands, and hold this up directly in front of your face. With both eyes open, locate an object in the middle of the circle and stare at it. Then, without moving your hand, close one eye, then the other. The object you pinpointed should still be visible through the circle to your dominant eye, but will be out of place for the non)

When breaking down your shot, your eye-dominance can effect where you shoot the ball. If you are right-eye dominant and right-handed, you will usually tend to shoot more above your right shoulder (same for lefts). If you are right-handed but left-eye dominant (or vice versa), then you will tend to shoot more in front of your head, or centered to your body.

Since there are far fewer left-handed shooters, the sample size is much smaller, but the majority of them are probably left-handed-left-eyed (going by general statistics), which is probably why most of them seem to shoot like that.

Good observation. Redd certainly does that. Personally, I think it looks very awkward. Purely from an aesthetic sense, I don't like Redd's shot. But it works for him. He's one of a shooter.
