The Spurs got their first road victory on Friday, but their 1-4 road mark, combined with their two home losses, translates into a minus-1 in the way a lot of NBA veterans look at the standings for the first couple of months of the season.
Instead of checking the won-lost records, some scouts and coaches look at the ratio of road wins to home losses. This accounts for variations in scheduling, with some teams playing lots of road games, while others, like the Spurs, get big doses of road games in the second half of the season.
Here is how the Western Conference shakes out in the plus-minus standings, through Friday’s games:
Suns: plus-7
Nuggets: plus-5
Mavericks: plus-5
Trail Blazers: plus-2
Thunder: plus-2
Lakers: Even
Jazz: Even
Rockets: Even
Warriors: Even
Spurs: minus-1
Kings: minus-1
