Yeah, as DAF86 mentioned, I didn't want to include player I admittedly have never seen on tape. Same reason why I wouldn't add Bill Russel and George Mikan for an NBA All-Tim list. Yashin I know is generally regarded as the greatest, but I've never seen him.

Schmeichel was what? 6'-4" and had huge hands... he dominated a over decade of his generation's football world.

I can't really comment on the other three you mention...
but G. Buffon, Paliugca, I. Casillas and even J. Campos were other quality goalkeepers I considered...

Why not? He even played stints at forward scoring some pretty amazing goals... look them up on youtube (I can't cause it's blocked here at work)...

And for his size the dude could flat out jump. It's not his fault Mexican goalies have made a living off of the Mexican league and prefer not to jump ship to the European leagues, a place that historically has been highly *racist towards integration of Mexicans... they're comfortable in Mexico... They earn more in Mexico than they would if they played in France, Germany, or even Holland... the only leagues that would pay more would probably be England's, Spain's and Italy's... But England is not nearly as desirable for Mexicans due to the language barrier, particularly if they play positions that require constant communication (goalies and defenders)... And both Spain and Italy are notoriously racist towards Mexicans. Hugo Sanchez basically lost two and half years of his prime getting less minutes than he deserved while trying to prove that he belonged. When he finally got the chance with Real he made his coach at Atletico look like a dunce... Cuahutemoc Blanco's coach called him an "indio" repeatedly and robbed him of any opportunity to show his talent. Having said that, the current influx of Mexicans in the European ranks from this generation of footballers may indicate that some of those walls are finally begining to fall...

I know "Campitos", in fact when I was I kid I loved to watch him play because of his outfits and "uniqueness" but as I grow older I realized that he really wasn't such a good goalkeeper and a lot of journalists used to make fun of him 'cause they didn't understand how he could be the starting goalkeeper for a National Team.

I've been to Spain on two occasions, and once to Italy... a couple of people from both of those countries made for some unpleasant experiences against our whole group...

oh and big lol at J Campos...

I don't know what the big fuss is about... he wasn't included on my list. I just happen to have a soft spot for his game. The dude played in 3 world cups... And had he played against the U.S. in Korea 2002 instead of Oswaldo the outcome could have been different... Not only that but he wasn't formally trained as a goalie... he debuted as his team's forward and in one particular game where the backup goalie was ejected, he reluctantly agreed to finish the game at that spot... he had 5 incredible saves... and was initially forced to play that role until the starting goalie came back... but that date never arrived... he played so well, the team and the fans did not want him to relinquish the role...

And the guy wasn't a scrub forward either... check these out:










Having said that, I probably should have included G. Buffon on the bench... I think he's that good... Edwin Van der Saar and Petr Cech are two other great goalies that haven't even been mentioned....

^ I agree Netherlands teams are clearly the biggest underachievers ever and the 90's team is nothing compared to the Cruyff generation.

On the top 5 of underachievers we have also the platini/tigana/giresse/bossis etc... team, we have the socrates/zico generation.
