TOR trades Chris Bosh ($15.79M) and Rasho Nesterovic ($1.99M) to SAS

SAS trades Manu Ginobili ($10.73M), Matt Bonner ($3.26M), Michael Finley ($2.5M), DeJaun Blair ($0.85M) and the rights to Tiago Splitter to TOR

TOR logic: The Raptors best weigh their options or Bosh is gone this summer. Three things are demanded in return for a star player: 1) talent, 2) expiring contracts, and 3) young potential. This trade nets them all three, and Ginobili, Bonner, and Splitter are just pale enough to prosper in Toronto. Even retaining Bosh makes Toronto nothing more than a marginal playoff team, time to shake it up. Ginobili's enough of a star and Bonner (essentially) a local favorite to avoid Colangelo losing his job. If you're a Raps fan and you fear your franchise cornerstone walking this summer, you've got to say the talent, potential, and money makes for a pretty good deal.

SAS logic: The Spurs appear headed for a 1st round exit at this point. If you can put another franchise big man next to Duncan, you have to do it, even if it means sacrificing - perennial all-stars don't come cheap (unless you're the Lakers). While Blair and Splitter have a lot of promise, it's yet to be seen whether either will even be a starter in the NBA. Similar to Gasol and Garnett, putting Bosh on the right team (next to Duncan) would establish one of the league's most intimidating frontlines, and his so-called softness would be long forgotten. Clearly, this trade assumes a backroom agreement for Bosh to stay on long term as a centerpiece in SA. Bonner's 8 ppg would be missed by some, but obivously Bosh is a far superior player on both ends of the court (and can stretch to 18 ft). Manu is a fan favorite (my favorite player), but unfortunately his decline is imminent even if he avoids major injury - and there's always the chance we could bring him back this summer! Wouldn't that be the most appealing option for him, having only lived in SA, with twins on the way, even for MLE/2 yrs? Otherwise Mason, Bogans, and Hill would hold down the fort at SG, and while none are anywhere close to Kobe, so far this season Manu hasn't been either. Finally, Pop might find some value in 5-10 mpg for Rasho considering his "corporate knowledge".

There has been a few threads like this already, but I don't think Toronto does this.

Keep Blair, and let them keep Rasho! There is No Guarantee We Could Resign Bosh.... To Risky!

Raptors only make this trade, when they receive something for Bosh, who will leave them during summer. Splitter`s rights isn`t the thing.

So you'd rather keep an undersized rookie than a legit all star forward in Bosh?

Damn I love Blair but i'd drive him to the airport if we could get Bosh.

Bosh is a terrible terrible defender. He's a solid offensive player, and putting up great numbers in a contract year, but take it from someone who lives in Toronto and sees a lot of Raptor games up close and personal.

He's not the solution for this team's woes.

Bosh has not proven he's worth the Max, which is what it will take to resign him. When has he ever made his teammates better? Putting up big numbers on a talented team that can't seem to win isn't the resume a smart GM looks for.
