i don't see an upside to this.
Read the Ludden article, it says the Spurs were going to trade Mason to Golden State for Bell.
Ok, so this is sarcastic, but I'm not really trying to throw a 'put-down'
however
Raja Bell's high caliber defense/perimeter shooting is about as worn out as the phrase, "what's the dealio?"
Both kinda peaked in 2006, right? I'll give you 2007 for the Raja Bell part, but you get the point...
Tinker Bell for Mase? No thanks. Plus you are trading potential for declining ability. It's not a horrible trade but with the pieces we have right now, it won't improve our chances of winning a championship.
If Bell was healthy I'd love this trade
If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.
Raja would be an upgrade in defense but I don't see any reason why Spurs should seek such a deal aggressively. Maybe Mason is sometimes a defensive liability which differs from the overall version of this team, his 3-pt shots are still worth keeping rather than trading and probably it'll help or even rescue the Spurs at some time as it comes deeper into the regular season and to playoffs.
Bruce Bowen could have be signed as a backup defensive option and Spurs passed it, why should the Spurs now sign someone as good a defender as bowen if not a lesser?
Why do we want to do that????
Mason is shooting lights out and is a big reason we are winning now.
Fixed.
I just don't get the Spurs ongoing fascination with old players. While Bell may still be a productive player, he is clearly beyond his prime and currently injured.

Mason has been distributing the ball very well. The Spurs seem to have been doing a better job of that lately (team assists) and the results have been wins.
On the other hand...the defense has been playing well too without a "defensive stopper".
I'm not sure Bell for Mason would be a wise thing compared to my first two points if this trend continues.
Raja was more than capable of playing through the injury, he was doing it for Charlotte since they are trying to make the playoffs. Once he was traded to GS though he had no motivation to play so he opted for surgery...if we wouldve traded for him he definitely wouldve played for us. I like Mase as much as the next guy but I wouldve done the deal, Ive always been a fan of Raja's game.
Raja was good back in like 2006. So was Bowen. Now they're both old.
Maybe we just want somebody to clothesline Kobe. Id take him just to see that.
Can't trade Mason for Bell and West, both.
Pop is still trying to find the next Bowen.
Men, we miss Bruce and Horry big time.
I wouldn't want him even if he was in his prime. The dudes a . Back during those epic Spurs/Suns series he was my most hated player after stoudewhiner.
Exactly what I was going to post. I can't stand his dirty ass.
Raja's D < Mase's O
Lol Bruce Bowen is one of the dirtiest players in the history of the NBA. You would only grow to love raja's play if he was here. if it wasnt for his injury, i would have been for this.
But you loved Bowen, right?
