    Tim Duncan, League MVP?
    by Timothy Varner

Maybe he’s too old, but that hardly disqualifies someone from MVP consideration. That’s just the sort of unthinking bias people carry into a season. No one expected Tim Duncan, tagged everywhere as a player in rapid decline, to compete for MVP honors this season, or, for that matter, any other season between now and his retirement. But Tim Duncan’s name ought to appear on each and every short list of 2010 MVP candidates. His production this season rivals LeBron James and outpaces Kobe Bryant, depending on how you evaluate such things.

People act like Duncan is going to be 40 in the next year.

Nash is a full 2+ years older (35) and he's a candidate too AND he plays a much tougher position for somebody his age.

Duncan is only 33 years old. He's got a few years left of playing at a high level. I know, shocking isn't it...

Duncans MVP days are over, he's still a top 5 player in the league right now but there are players who are more deserving.

If the Spurs end up w/ a record of at least 55 wins, TD could possibly end up top 3-5 for MVP consideration the way he's been playing so far, but it's hard to win it over players like Lebron or possibly Kobe.

If the Spurs can get the #2 seed Duncan could be a top 2 vote getter, but Kobe has been awfully good this season.

    1. LeBron

    2. Probably Kobe.

Duncan might get 4th, although he should at least be in CONSIDERATION for MVP.

IF the Spurs come out with a better record he could pull it off. Definitely in consideration.

Pop stated it correctly the other day, if the Spurs had a better record, Duncan would be in the running. Otherwise, his great year flies under the radar.

Duncan is 33 but people write him off like he's an old man, on his last legs.. He is still playing great..

His numbers are definitely MVP-ish. May not look more impressive than LeBron but given that he has only played 31.8 MPG, an extension of his stats to 38.5 MPG (Kobe's and Lebron's) will look like this
    24.2 pts, 12.3 rebs, 3.6 ast, 0.7 stl, 2.2 blks, 2.3 TOs

    Lets look at Kobe's numbers
    30.2 pts, 5.6 rebs, 4.6 ast, 2.0 stl, 0.2 blks, 3.1 TOs

    Lebron's numbers
    28.9 pts, 7.1 rebs, 7.8 ast, 1.5 stl, 0.9 blks, 3.5 TOs.

I think we can safely say that as both are wing players, Lebron is more deserving as his stats look better than Kobe. Comparing stats of Timmy and Lebron, the latter come up as superior too.

Most probably, Lebron will still be the MVP if he continues at this pace. Duncan will not be the MVP as the media has never favoured us but looking at the numbers, he deserved to be in the running as top 3 instead of the dumb NBA MVP ranking whereby he is rated as only 10th.

if the nba wanted to they can award lebron mvps for the next 10yrs, just like what they did with jordan during the 90s....
