Ive cut down a whole lot..like down to one coke with my dinner...bottled water FTW! This has helped me get down to my weight I was in high school.
How long can I go without sodas? This has nothing to do with the new year it's just me wanting to cut them out of my diet. I love them and usually have quite a bit everyday. I hear it's harder than cigs to do and I beat that. No I am lying I was never a smoker. This does mean no more Jack/Crown and coke though which will be tough too so that will have to be straight up.
This should be a vbookie thing.

and here I thought you were talking about the other kind of soda....
Don't throw it completely out. Soda will start tasting good again if you cut it down to a couple of cokes a week (it did when I quit drinking it like it was water).
You need to totally eliminate them? Can't you just cut down?
lots of water. I'm cutting them out of my diet too just because theyre unhealthy as . I might need my pancreas one day.
Usually when I cut it out for a little while it starts to taste nasty to me. Maybe I won't cut it out completely and just drink it with my whiskey.
I want to do it because it is unhealthy. I need to get in shape so that I can continue to play with my kids.
I was drinking about 5 or 6 cans of coke a day. I started getting pains on the side of my stomach and cut. It will make you feel a lot better. I haven't had a coke or any other cola since 9/14/08. It's pretty tough, though.
I can't live without my diet Pepsi, and on a bad day I'll drink 3. But my addiction is actually to carbonation so I keep Perrier around all the time, and it helps me not drink so many Pepsis.
I have quit smoking and lessen my exploits in alcohol for 2010 and pretty much my life. Sodas have always had an interesting place in my diet as there would either be a week where I drink sporadically and others where I would not drink a soda at all. I'm trying to cut them out to where I may have one on special occasions lol.
CUT THEM OUT COMPLETELY IHUSTLE. you'll feel great after you stop twitching from DTs.
for real though, i dare you
Just like anything else you want to do it slowly, without the caffeine you'll get terrible headaches.
That is a lot of in soda.
Why not try to go to coke zero. I am not a big fan of diet anything drinks but ZERO does taste pretty close to coke without all the calories.
yeah cut soda it's a lot unhealthier than beer.![]()
I think the average person can cut soda out of their life completely rather easily. It's just a matter of drinking a lot of water. I was addicted to gatorade for the longest. I don't even know why. It's not the flavor or anything like that. But when I was playing basketball a lot, I'd always get a gatorade after playing and even when I stopped playing ball as much, I'd pick up a Gatorade after a work out or if I was at the drug store. I've gone through phases with soda but when I've wanted to, I would stop pretty easily. I'm a big Sprite guy, so that the one brand that was hard to cut out. Pepsi and Coke, easy. But, it's true about how unhealthy soda is for you. Cut it out, you'll lose noticeable weight in a week or two.
Just make it past the first week. After that, your body will not thirst for it anymore.
Drinking only water blows after a while though. The only way I have found to keep drinking lots of water is to stay active. That's the only time water is the greatest drink on Earth![]()
Probably not necessary to cut out soda completely. Several years ago I made the decision to only drink soda (Pepsi, specifically, since that was my addiction) at restaurants or ballgames or whatever. Basically, I stopped buying them and keeping them around the house. That alone made a HUGE difference. It wasn't a decision based on losing weight, so that didn't change, but my energy level increased significantly and I started feeling generally healthier. Also, since I'm not in the habit of drinking it constantly, I've noticed that I don't even order a Pepsi when eating out as often as I typically would have.
It's been several years, as I mentioned, but without much effort at all I've gone from drinking at least one or two glasses of Pepsi every day to having an average of maybe one or two glasses of Pepsi every month. I've always kept ginger ale and/or 7-Up in the house for drinks, but none of the other sodas even remotely tempt me anymore when I'm at the store.
Lastly, I'd assume it goes without saying, but it's also important to consider what you'd be replacing the sodas with. Unless you're going to commit to either drinking only water or checking the label on everything you buy, might as well stick with the sodas. The overwhelming majority of juices/teas/"healthy" alternatives are probably as bad for you as sodas are, if not worse.
I was able to quit smoking, AND quit biting my nails.....yet I still can't give up soda. I have gone 2 weeks without it in the last 25 years or so. That was the longest stretch. I did feel less bloated during that time, but since I didn't give up caffeine (still drank coffee) I really didn't notice any other benefits to NOT drinking soda. I drink diet only, but I know it's not good for me and people have told me I'll lose weight if I cut out even the diet sodas. Just. can't. seem. to. do. it!!
Maybe it is just the carbonation I'm addicted to. I've tried the flavored seltzer waters that HEB has, and they seem to satisfy somewhat, but nothing beats an icy cold can of Coke Zero. I don't do the plastic bottles of soda--it tastes really strange.
I'm hoping someone has a good suggestion in here to help a person quit. Cold turkey is probably best, but I just can't maintain it.
Yeah, it was. I stopped drinking some after the USC/OSU game, cause I had about two 2 liters. I probably drink more beer now, but I don't get that pain.
Really, really good thread. Soda and coffee are my two food vices and I can't stop either of them. It sucks. I eat like a nutritionist otherwise, but man, those Dr. Peppers got a hold of me about 2 years ago and they haven't let go. I'm not even interested in cutting back, but good luck to the op.
I absolutely HAVE to have a 32oz Diet Coke Fountain drink a day. None of this can BS...fountain is the only way to go. When that carbonated syrup is cooled down by the tons of ice in your styrofoam cup and you can sip it all day....that is just heaven to me!
I know it's super bad for me, or so they say. But like someone else said if I try to stop I get a headache from . I figure since I don't like coffee or tea...just having this one caffeine vice is alright.
I decided to quit drinking soda and I switched to unsweetened iced tea instead to deal with the caffeine withdrawal. Takes a couple days to get over the sugar craving, but once you do, you feel a lot better.
I stopped caffeine cold turkey and never had a headache.
I still drink Sprite and 7-Up, but not in the mass quan ies I used to drink unsweetened tea and Dr. Pepper.
i been off it now for almost 2 months. i def went through 2 days of headaches. never found anything that replaces the carbonation addiction, but also havent caved yet. been drinkin a ton of water, and since SA water tastes like crap the other day i went to walmart and dropped a bill for one of those 5gal cooled water dispensers . very good investment IMO. water tastes great, and im drinking even more now. hmm wonder what symptoms are of overhydration......
