Congrats to RJ for a solid performance. I couldn't watch the game but the boxscores looked good.. 17 points, several rebounds and no TOs.. w/c is a good sign because he does have a tendency to get sloppy with the ball now and then. Can anyone care to comment on his overall defense?
I was impressed by the alley-oop dunk in traffic show in the highlight video. It shows good communication between RJ and his teammate 9was it Parker with the assist?).. anyway, good stuff and I like the signs I'm seeing. Slow and steady progress is just fine and seems the SPurs' way.

RJ needs to get more aggressive. And I mean way more aggressive. I watched a game in RaptorsNBA TV of when RJ scored his career high against Cleveland in '04, and the man honestly looked like a beast. He demanded the ball, made hard cuts off the ball, and drove to the basket every single time. He was pumped up on D, and overall honestly looked like a man on a mission.

I wanna see that again. He's not old enough to warrant losing that

I'd just like to see him more active and moving w/o the ball instead of just relying on his jumpshot so much.. with RJ, its all mental now.. trying to adjust from being the primary option to being the 3rd or 4th on a new team is challenging.. still, I think he is making progress and the team is getting a better handle on how he can be more effective.

    This.
He settles for the jump shot a lot, but he is not a bad jump shooter on most nights. He is starting to attack the basket more in the last 5 games.
My only problem with RJ is his hands when he attacks the basket. The guy loses the handle when he goes up for the dunk 1/2 the time.
That said, he is improving and is starting to remind me that we have a 4th all star just rounding into shape, much like Manu is. I got so used to last year of having only 2 all stars in Tim and Tony that I am frankly not used to seeing the Spurs this talented. Blair is also confusing the issue as he is turning into a consistent beast every night.
So much talent...I am drooling here.

You want him to be more agressive and shoot the ball instead of who exactly?

Right now he's playing the 4th scorer role well. He will only improve.

Aggressive as in attack the basket more instead of pull up jumpers off the run, a la Finley. He is better at the pull up than Finley, but it seems a waste of his ability to attack the rim and get the other team in foul trouble.
Getting the other team's main players in foul trouble just accelerates the game for us as our bench will keep the pressure up. RJ has the skills and athletic ability to draw those fouls, if he can keep the damn ball in his hands.

He is fitting in alright. It is like a tight sock which you found not so good a fit when you wear it, it looks good when you bought it, has all the nice accessories, you just have to stretch it to loosen it up to make it fit. This was what the Spurs did to RJ, and it worked.

Great analogy. People made the mistake of thinking when RJ was playing bad that he didn't care. The problem is he took his bad performances too hard. Put wayyyy too much pressure on himself. There still at times is a noticeable delicate balance the big 4 are trying to work out amongst themselves and it'll still take time to work it out.

What are the right accessories for a sock? I feel like I've been missing out on an important fashion tip, with my unadorned dress socks.

Sorry, I digress, RJ is starting to look better. I'm more concerned with his defense and rebounding, frankly, since we don't need much from him on offense. Still would like to see us take advantage of him on post-ups more often, however.

i love socks. I love RJ. He is learning his role and its only positive from here.
Manu has been the first Spur to really understand RJ's movement and learned how to play with him to make RJ more efficient.
Tony is getting it too now.
Let's hope they don't forget about him at times.

I guarantee that he'll be attacking the rim at will by late FEB. I'm sure Pops has them on a leash till then. Parker, Manu and Jefferson have not done what they have done in past seasons.

Its a good idea. Gives the players a better understanding of themselves and there are smaller possibilities of ball hogging, turnovers, etc. Then come Spring if there come times when the Spurs are in a drought, I can see any four of the players taking over a game to bring the team back in sync. It would be contagious since there would be a great chemistry built.

It's like training a dog to comment on your leash. When unleashed the commands will be understood and complied in tight situations (these two words always remind me of MOBB DEEP).

He seems to be fitting in much better now. Most of us here were pysched when he got acquired. And after game 1 and the rout of the Hornets alot of people had such high expectations but then reality hit home. This has always been a work in progress and we are finallly starting to see results. It is only going to get better and the talent on this team is pretty scary.

Looking forward to the RR trip since that usually tells us what kind of team they will be finishing out the season.

I think it'll take this entire season to integrate the team, we'll probably see the real results next season.

Remember Finley's first game. He scored something like 17 points, even had a dunk.. ST was abuzz.. then reality appeared and he struggled to get used to the system and his role but he has had his bright moments as a Spur, no doubt. I think we can set the bar higher for RJ. He's still in his prime and is a more versatile player. Still on the learning curve so everyone should go easy on him.. Pop will do what needs to be done.

He's playing ok. Beginning of the year, I had him averaging about 15 ppg and shoot around 45% from the field as the 3rd/4th leading scorer. He's getting better, and his per 36 is just right around that mark.
