    two points:

    1) had it actually been shot from behind the backboard it would have been disallowed. Clearly, he was not behind the backboard when he shot it. Bird was. Bird's shot was about 100x more difficult than LeBron's.

    2) If you've played forward much, you know this shot isn't really that hard from the left side (assuming you're right-handed). I used to shoot these all the time during warm-ups because it actually gives you an aiming point (the corner of the backboard) and forces you to arch the ball up (which you should be doing anyway). With no D I could make them about 1/2 the time. It's a lot harder from the right side because the ball is 18 inches or so further towards the endline when you shoot it, making the angle more difficult -but it's still doable. You just have to really feather it up there.

Well, exactly right. The NBA is all about getting the best possible shot for each possession. Any NBA player can jack the ball up at any time, that's not the issue.

LeBron should have been looking for the pass, not flinging up a cheap shot with two guys on him.

I thought you said the shot wasn't that difficult?

BTW, the shot clock was down to :03. He had to put it up there.

Yeah, you're probably right about having to put it up.

By "not that hard" I meant that it's very makable in warmups. That doesn't mean it's a high percentage shot in a game situation. If you watch NBA players in warmups they typically hit like 8 out of 10 within their shooting range. I don't think LeBron could hit that shot 80% of the time in warmups, do you?

I wouldn't put it past him. Like you said, guys hit a high percentage of shots in warm-ups. , Ben Wallace can knock down jumpers in warm-ups.

You were right about Bird's shot being much tougher, BTW. If I recall correctly, he was way out in the corner beyond the three-point line when he hit his.

They changed that rule a few years ago. It's a legal shot now.
